I'm not sure if "History" is the correct term or not. I tried to use the Netscape HELP, and could find no mention of "history ". In both IE and Netscape when you start typing in the address "box ", most often many URLs will appear right below that (from which you can select without typing any further).

What if you want to see EVERY URL that is in the "history" (or whatever it's called)? How can you do that?

    Thanks.

    rlambert7,

Click on: Go | History, and all links you have visited, for the number of days you selected to keep History, will be listed.

Thanks, I think that's what I was looking for. Where, exactly, is that HISTORY info kept on the hard drive? Also, if you are viewing a website, and you click on a link in that website, and then select to "open in new tab ", does that new website/URL go into your HISTORY?

    Thanks again.

    rlambert7,

The history.dat file is located in your salted (*.slt), the path depending on your OS. See: Profiles Folder Location

Yes, a link opened in a new Tab will be listed in the History, and in the dropdown Menu of the GO Tab.

    Ramona,
this may be off on a tangent, and may have ask this question. While all previous programs used to maintain a URL location history, which is different, from plain old history, this FF1.0 does not remember anything, as soon as I close the browser. Is this a cookie business? The cookie choices in Firefox are rather poor. So, if this affects URL location history, I may have to keep the cookies.

    Fulvio,
I do not think cookies has any effect on history.
In FF, what is your history set to ( number of days )?

    Westside,

I would ask the same thing as captjlddavis, as to how many days you keep History. I only keep it 3 days, as I don't like to bog down the browser with a bunch of junk.

On a trusted site, I always keep the cookies, which eliminates having to log in. On this BBS, if you log out every night, then you have to re enter the Password, even tho you have checked "Remember me ". When you log out here, your cookie is removed. If you don't log out, nothing is required when you open the BBS link.

Cookies and History are separate entities... To the best of my knowledge there is no connection.

I am talking about the URL location dropdown. I have no problem with History.
Thios is what I had said in my post:
"While all previous programs used to maintain a URL location history, which is different, from plain old history, this FF1.0 does not remember anything.

    Westside,

Yes, I do understand the question. Try clearing the Location Bar, then type one letter: "h" as in http. When you do so, your drop down should be available.

I do know that making the history.dat file "Read only ", will prevent URL's from being saved in the Location Bar dropdown menu.

Ramona, you are a genius, of course. And, there you have people with too many items in the URL dropdown, and I could not get the thing to budge.
I did nothing to History.dat, but who can tell!
