I downloaded the IE 5.5 service pac cleanly. ( no errors)
Tried to install (perpdirections) & got "Setup was unable to install all the components. Pls close all.........run setup again "

Well I did that & rebooted & got promted to either restart the install from wher it quit or start afresh. The 1st 3 times I tried to restart with no success & then re-booted. The 4th & 5th times I thought I'd start the install form scratch.....U guessed it....... the same end point.

So here I sit with an IE 5.5 4807 2300IC installed, and no way to update. Oh did I mention that the opportunity to re-download the update for 5.5 is no longer available on the MS Upgrade site.

I will shower anyone who solves this problem with hugs.......

Thanks in advance for helping me resolve the Gill Bates gremlin of th eweek.

Just a thought... Make sure you have disabled your virus protection during the installation. Also any other programs you have running. Other things running while you're trying to install a program can cause similar problems. Hope this helps.

And after you do as Mr. B suggested, you might want to run a repair of your existing install before trying to update it.

Thanka all, I stopped Norton & all other progs, erased the orogianl file, downloaded again & still go the same error. The magically the Windows critical update gave me a new W2K update. After installing this, the IE update worked.

Go figure...Thanks a ton Gill Bates & U're gang of idiots
