I'm trying to get my hands on a cheap ADSL router with built in modem (as my exsisting modem is USB and I don't really want to buy a router and a RJ45 modem).
The problem is networking isn't my stongest field and I have found what I think is the product but I don't want to order it if it's only a router for a modem rather than with a modem.

Can someone please tell me if that is what I'm after?

    Thank you for the response.
I trust what you say but I was wondering what exactly you are reading from the spec sheet to see it has a modem built in?
I just have to be sure before I order it as returning is too much trouble and cost.
    Thank you again, Gary

For a router to be an "ADSL Router" it needs the ADSL modem function built in. Routers without this functionality are usually labelled "DSL Router ". Another good indication is that the ports include two RJ11. RJ11 is the square telephone socket standard used in the states. This sugests the router is to be connectd directly to a telephone connection. A router that requires a modem will usually have only RJ45 and USB connections. "The ASR-8400 ADSL Router operates on the existing telephone line...." is another clear indication that a modem is not required.

The spec sheet says "operates ON the existing telephone line "

But before purchasing, verify that this hardware is supported by your isp. ISPs generally maintain a list of supported routers and modems that will work with their network, else you will end up with a very cool paperweight.
