    Hi All
Just a quick question, a silly minor one, but something I cant seem to find the answer to.
A friend has just set up a user account for me on his computer and when I logged on it had all the icons on the desk top that were on his desk top. When I deleted them it deleted them from his desk top to. I know there is a simple answer to this but I just cant figure it out.
I have been given an admin account like his own but his sons have limited, and they also have the same icons, so can't get rid of them.
Anyone have the answer to this
    Thanks
    Stitch

Since you have been given full administrator priveledges, you are able to delete any Shortcuts you choose. Here's the catch, if the shortcuts you delete are sourced from the "All Users" desktop folder, deleting them will remove them from everyones desktop. If instead, they are sourced from your own ID's desktop folder, it will only remove them from yours. You'll just have to check those locations prior to deleting them to be sure. Otherwise, you'll need to have your permissions restricted to your own identity, as his son's are.

The path to that folders is, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop.

The path to your personal folder would be the same except change All Users to your ID name. From the Run window you can quickly access your personal folder by inputting C:\documents and settings\%username%\desktop

    Hi Surferdude
the icons are from the main user's account and he is the administrator, every time he installs something it appears on everyone else's desk top even if they are of a limited or administrator account. So if the other users want rid of the icon it will be deleted from the main account. what we want to do is stop that happening. well I do anyway. I want to clear off all the icons on mine as its to busy for me.
Any idea if there is a setting or something somewhere that can be changed to help this along.

ps. sorry but if the administrator installed the programs surly they would be all in his account not all users. (what is the difference here thanks)

I know of no setting that does that. You could simply drag/drop the icons from the All Users folder into the owners desktop id folder. That way they wouldn't appear on your desktop. Any ones you would like to keep you can copy to your personal desktop folder as well. Then when you delete them, if you do, they will only leave your desktop.

Ok, stitch. That'll work slick for you. It all goes back to how the program was initially installed. Lot's of the new stuff asks if you want to make it available to all users or restrict it to yourself.

    All the best.
