Just recently I've noticed I'm unable to contact sites by email.... Whenever I click on their email address or the "Contact" area/words, all I get is a pop-up reading:

"Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed "

No further explanation or details (of course!)
Everything else works fine, all email functions in Outlook Express 6 work fine. What's to do?

Cheers,
Jay :(

This is usually caused by the installation, configuration, or removal of another e-mail client.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab and set the drop box for E-Mail to the client you choose for default. Also see that Outlook Express is set as the default mail handler from Tools > Options.

If no entry is found in the IE drop-down, close all programs. go to Start/Run, and type --with quotes-- "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /REG

This path may be different depending on your system setup. So do a Find for msimn.exe to be sure.
Reboot. (may or may not be necessary)
Repeat the steps in the first paragraph.

The Tools/Internet Options box is correct, no adjustments needed.
The file MISMN.EXE doesn't exist in this computer. Guess that's the problem?

OOOPS!!

So much for typing skills...

Ran MSIMN.EXE and rebooted, checked Tools>Options etc., but still gives out with the error pop-up....

Next?

Try this:

1. Start Registry Editor; click Start, click Run, and then type regedit
2. Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Outlook Express
3. In the left pane, click Outlook Express. Two values should be displayed in the right pane: one is Default, which has a value of Outlook Express, and the other is DLLPath, which contains the path to Msoe.dll on your computer.
4. If the DLLPath value is not present, click Edit, point to New, and then click String Value.
5. New Value #1 is displayed, with the text selected. Type DllPath, and then press the ENTER key.
6. Double-click the new DLLPath value to open it. In the Value Data box, type the path to the Msoe.dll file on your computer, for example: <drive>:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSOE.DLL
7. Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.
OK did all that down to #3, and at the DLLPath I have

Type:
REG_EXPAND_SZ

Data:
%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll

....so I presume that's OK and nothing to do?

Well, nothing much more that I can suggest.

I would try:

1. Running a Repair
2. Reinstalling IE/OE
What Arie said. That would be all I'd have to offer, too.

Eureka !!

Found the answer from my local Guru, Peter of Acusel Computers.....

In Outlook Express, click Tools>Options, General, near the bottom under Default Message Programs, "This application is the default Mail handler" needed to be greyed out.
Done that, applied, and we're back on track to click on emails' contacts....

Add that to your vast info bank!

Cheers,
Jay :D

On the 4th (above), I posted:

Also see that Outlook Express is set as the default mail handler from Tools > Options

I guess I should have been more explicit. Sorry.
