    Hello.

I hope not to offend anyone with posting my problem here. I have read most of the discussion areas and this seems like a logical place to post. Again I apologize if this is the wrong area.

I have two machines: one is running XP Home and is plugged into a Westell wireless router/modum with Verizon Online DSL software the other is running Win98se and has a Belkin Wireless USB NEtwork adaper. The Win98se machine had the hard drive reformatted and has Win98se, the Belkin software and little else installed.

I am almost certain that I have the router and Net adaper set up correctly (the Belkin recongizes the router) but I can not get IE to access any web sites. Each time I get the msg "Cannot find server ".

Are there steps I need to take within IE to be sure it is connected to the Belkin? Do I need to install the Verizon software on the Win98se?

Please help...I have pulled out most of my remaining hair and would like to keep what little I have left.

    Thank you in advance,
    Terry.

To try the easiest thing first, go to Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections tab, click on the Setup button and step through the wizard, entering the appropriate information for your internet connection. Specifically, tell it you want to connect through a LAN so it will look to the network card for the connection.

    Thanks Mix,

I have tried just what you said with a number of different setting combinations and have had no luck. I contacted Verizon about the settings and was unable to get an answer from them.

Should I install the Verizion DSL software on the machine?

Just a thought: did you try a winipcfg on the 98 machine from the run line, with a release all and renew all? I've never tried it with wireless, but it has helped me with cable several times.
