I have tried to install Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD ver 8 on a P4/ 2.8 with XP Pro + SP2 and get BSD. The company's tech help was no help at all, has anyone got any work arounds? I can install Nero 6 on without problem.

    2MG DDR 400 ram.
    256meg Video card.

IceBob - Welcome to the Board :)

Can you supply details of the BSOD - if your PC automatically reboots right click My Computer icon > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings and uncheck Automatically restart.

Also look in Event Viewer ( Right click My Computer icon > Manage > Event Viewer) and see if there are any error relevant error messages at the time of the BSOD. Double click on a message to open and on the icon below the up/down arrows to copy and paste here.

BTW are you trying to install Pinnacle while Nero is on your system?

    Hi PeteC,
I get BSD at 88% intall with no error messages the computer just freezes. Auto retart is off and so is XP's disk copying facility(command line change).
Nero is not installed. Have re formatted HDD and installed just XP Pro have all updates on cd for XP and tried installing Pinnacle both before updates and after, makes no difference still freezes. Have changed brand and size of HDD, same result, have changed motherboard, worked for seven days then froze and data disk copy was unreliable (1 good, 5 bad). Changed sound card as there is an issue with Creative cards, same result BSD and freeze at 88% install, have had the CD checked physiclly is ok. Can take CD and do complete install on my son's machine with Win98se and every Prog: function works. Purchased another copy of XP Pro but get the same result from it and went through the same "replcement items" as original XP same result, have changed power supply too, made no difference except new unit is quieter and 420watt instead of 350watt. Oh, installed XP home and still freezes and tried a different monitor, same result.

Just thought a freash pair of eyes may spot somthing I have missed.

You have certainly 'gone to town' trying to solve this :D Are you that set on using Pinnacle or is it the challenge of finding a solution?

The only further thoughts I have are ....

There may be a conflict between a driver in Pinnacle and one of the system drivers, maybe the chipset driver. Were the two boards you tried running the same chipset and have you updated the chipset drivers?

Have you tried another CD-ROM drive?

Have you tried copying the CD contents to the hard drive and installing from there?

Finally try downloading RegSeeker and search for any registry strings with Ahead or Nero in them and delete them. THere may be some remnant of Nero which is causing the problem.

BTW - do not be concerned that RegSeeker is beta - it has been that way for over a year, I guess and is OK.

I have further edited your thread title in the hope that someone else will chip in.

    Pinnacle

    Hi Pete C,
Thanks for the help, yes I am determined to find and fix this problem! I guess I'm one of those people who like a challange. I have tried two motherboards with different chip sets, formatted the HDD so many times we are on first names, ha,ha. There is no "left over" bits of either programme.
This CD runs without a hitch on WIN98se on both motherboards with all the original hardware. Tried three brands of CD and DVD drives and three brands of burners both CD and/or DVD same result BSD and freeze. I am begining to think it maybe a progremming "thing" on the actual CD, however another CD of the same brand(Pinnacle) does the same thing as my original when I use XP. I tried three other computers running XP(2 P4's & 1 P3)and got the same result as with my computer with both CD's. This takes me back to a possible programming error on the CD.
I have put the CD under test at a CD manufactures quality control section and the CD it self passed all tests.
I have copied the cd to the HDD and get the same result BSD and freeze but at 72% installed not 88% when installing from CD.

The problem as I see it comes down to:-
1.All hardware items are ok and will run Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD ver 8 in W98se.
    2. XP Pro with or without SP2 are ok with all hardware but will not run Pinnacle.
    3. The actual CD is fine.
At this stage my conclusion unless I have missed somthing is that Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD ver8 is not reliably compatable with XP.

    Hi IceBob

I tend to agree with your feelings and conclusions, especially when looking at the Pinnacle Systems Discussion Forums. Unless you have already posted there I suggest you have a look.

    Good luck !!
