The update has been previously downloaded successfully. However, The same update returns (reoffered) to be downloaded again every 24 hours? :( Please advise. Thanks for your time.

Lis--I perhaps misunderstood your first post. I thought you were trying to find where to get that update. Are you saying you are going to Windows Update, but are being offered that old update and that indeed it is being offered over and over again even after installing? (If so is that the only Update you are being offered?)
You should be offered the following update, which is more recent and, which by installing, may get rid of that message
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-038.mspx
And you might also look here for links to MS04-025
    http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/vulninfo/vuln.aspx?id=25896
Does your Windows Update History of Installation indicate either (or both) of those were installed?
Alternatively, you should be able to uninstall MS04-013. Look in Control Panel| Add/Remove|look under Outlook Express Q837009. Then go back to Windows Update, see what Critical updates you are offered and install them.
If nothing works, please post your version of Windows and IE/OE.

Lis--By chance today is the day MS is declaring a long list of Critical Updates. (The number varies depending on what versions of Windows and IE/OE you have installed.)
I would suggest uninstalling the 837009 update from Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs and then going to the Windows Update site and downloading and installing all Critical Updates offered.
P.S. This site will tell you all the Updates MS has offered over the last few years.
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx
It also shows what versions of Windows and other MS programs are affected.

Subject critical update 837009 is not available for uninstall? Currently, MS has no other updates available for download. Update 837009 is always available for download? Why? That is the major issue to be resolved. Thanks.

    Lis--
    1) You still have not told us what version of Windows or IE you run. This is important since that determines what Critical Updates you need for your PC.
    2) Your last post says "Subject critical update 837009 is not available for uninstall? ". Well, so be it. That download is almost a year old and has been superceded by two or more more recent cumulative updates. So you do not need it anymore .
    3) What I believe you should do is
    a) Go to Windows Update to see what is offered and download/install.
    b) If nothing is offered, before you close Windows Update, click View Installation History (left panel of Windows Update) and make a note of the date of the last installed patch. Then go to
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx
and manually download and install the patches that apply to your PC based on what is indicated (versions of Windows and IE/OE) in the right hand column starting with the patch right after the date of the last installed patch you noted earlier in Installation History.
P.S. If you still get that message about 837009, there is a way to clean the Registry of any trace of it, but I am hoping the above will take care of both the message problem and get your PC up to date with MS Critical patches. Good luck.

Lis--Open RegEdit|click Edit|Find|type 837009|OK. Do you find anything? (Keep hitting F3 if you find something that does not seem pertinent.) (I do not run Win98 so cannot test the link I gave you earlier. But the WinXP version does work.)

Lis--I have run out of ideas. Regrets.
I am surprised that Windows Update does not offer you any recent Critical Updates. You could try install some of the more recent ones for Win98 manually from the site I mentioned earlier.
"3) What I believe you should do is
    a) Go to Windows Update to see what is offered and download/install.
    b) If nothing is offered, before you close Windows Update, click View Installation History (left panel of Windows Update) and make a note of the date of the last installed patch. Then go to

Of course you want to install only those listed as pertinent to Win98.

Lis--in my post of Feb 10 I gave you the URL of a CNET article. Apparently that advice did not help.
Perhaps instead try this destination in the Registry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\Updates
and see if you can find 837009 and delete from there. (Do a backup Registry|Export of that key before deleting just in case you need to restore.)
I do not run Win98 so was unable to test the suggestion given in the CNET article (or even what I have now posted). But it cannot hurt to look.
