I've reviewed thread from iamshell from April 9th. I'm having the same problem in importing my mail folders from 4.7 to 6.2. I don't think her problem was resolved, as the thread simply ended.

In trying to move my folders, ALL folders have an extension of .sbd, including my inbox folder. Like iamshell, in Windows explorer, it shows the folders there, but with the same extension. They are all empty.

I have searched all over the web for an answer, and could not even get technical help from netscape to help (it was recorded message with prompts, and continually hung up on me)!!

I am at a total loss! Would appreciate any help you could offer! Thanks!:D

    Same problem, maybe

I deleted the profile directory, as well. The reason I did it was this: when I installed 6.2 (I had 4.7 previously), it asked for my user id (or profile). When I entered it, it said it was already in use, and to choose another name. I didn't want to choose another name, as I've had it for years. So......I deleted it from 4.7 to allow to enter in 6.2. Did this cause me to lose everything??

BTW, when I pull up 4.7 (still have it on desktop), I can still read the e-mails....so...they must be there; I just can't get them to 6.2!

This puts a slightly different slant on your problem. In the future, it would be best to post all the information in one thread, rather than scatter posts throughout the Forum.

    Thanks!

    Luckyfish,

    It should be this simple:

Copy the mail files (the ones without .snm extension) from your NS 4.xx mail directory into your NS 6 mail directory:
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\YourProfile\Mail --> C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\YourProfile\xxxx.slt\mail\mailserver . Make sure you Copy, and not move, so your 4.x Mail will remain intact.
NOTE: copy to your mailserver folder, not the Inbox sbd folder.
    -----

If this doesn't work, see this thread with another workaround for copying mail from one Netscape version to another:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4716

Netscape 6 automatically migrates and converts the 4.x Users information to its Profile folder. You would want to use the same profile name. I've tried to recreate what you described:
"I deleted the profile directory, as well. "
The Profile Manager did not give that response when I used the same profile?

Did this cause me to lose everything??

No, since you used a new Profile, your Netscape 4.x information is still intact. As you said, you can access it by clicking on your Desktop icon.

Let us know if any of the workarounds work for you.

    Luckyfish,

I kept fooling with the NS 6 Profile Manager, and I finally got the message you described:

it asked for my user id (or profile). When I entered it, it said it was already in use, and to choose another name. I didn't want to choose another name, as I've had it for years. So......I deleted it from 4.7 to allow to enter in 6.2.

If that should happen again in the future, go ahead and "Delete" the Profile. Then in the next screen select "Don't Delete Folder ".

You can then create a new Profile using the same name and all your files will be intact.

I've copied and pasted files like you said...only I don't have a mailserver folder in Mozilla mail...just the mail folder itself. I copied all stuff in the folder from Netscape\users....except the .snm ext. like you said...a lot of them were folders with .sbd extension.

This did not work!! Still no old mail folders in 6.2.

I'm going to now try the thread 4716 you suggested. Thanx for your help!!

I tried the thread 4716 like you suggested. Still no mail from 4.7. Do you think the problem could be that I am missing 'mailserver' folder?? Where could that be? Thank you!

    Luckyfish

    Hi Luckyfish,

I think you will need to create a new Profile to try to fix this problem. Netscape 6.2 Mail is very problematic, and you have a mess, since your ISP/mailserver folder is non existent. Something went very wrong somewhere.

Your Mail folder should have subfolders:
Local folders and a folder with your ISP name. The folder with the ISP name should have an inbox.sbd subdirectory.

If creating a new Profile doesn't fix your problem, then I would uninstall NS6 and start from scratch. Here are "Clean" Install instructions for NS 6.2.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record....
I would use Communicator 4.x for your Mail & Newsgroups. If you wish to experiment with 6.2, then you can download a Standalone version, 8.6 MB HERE.

    Luckyfish,

Another thought, before you have to resort to uninstalling and reinstalling:

Go into your Mail and creat a new Mail account. Then close Netscape and see if your ISP folder is there.

Otherwise, follow my above post's advice.

I hope I haven't confused you too much! It looks like I do have a mailserver folder--I thought it was CALLED mailserver. That's obviously the folder called pop.netzero.net....right? Sorry--guess I'm more of a beginner than experienced! However, within that folder, I do NOT have an inbox.sbd folder. That folder exists within the Mail folder, but not within pop.netzero.net. In the mailserver folder, I have two word perfect documents, and several other 'documents' I can't open. There is a regular inbox document, and also inbox with an .msf extension.

Am I getting closer to resolving this, or just confusing the issue? Luckyfish

Please disregard my last post!!!! I finally got it. I was really confused about the mailserver folder...sorry for all of the confusion!! Everything finally jumped over from 4.7.

The only problem is that I lost everything from my 6.2 inbox--but I'll live!

I am NOW one happy camper!! Thank you ! Luckyfish
