I have some rogue programs that I do want in my Add/Remove Programes list, does anybody know how I can remove these links.

Looked at TweakUI (Powertoys) but can find no reference to help me.

    Hi paulbristow,
It goes without saying, I hope, to back up your registry before making any changes?
I yanked this out of my favourites, and have used it in 98 and ME....but unsure if it's any different for XP?

Removing Names From Add/Remove Program Folder:
If you've ever deleted a program and then tried to remove the name from the Control Panel Add/Remove programs tab, the name doesn't go away, because you have just erased the directory containing the program, instead of using the uninstall utility. Now you can't get rid of the names. Here is how to do it:
From the Start Menu hit Run
    Type in REGEDIT.EXE, hit ENTER
    Click the + on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Click the + on Software
    Click the + on Microsoft
    Click the + on Windows
Click the + on Current Version
    Click the + on Uninstall

You'll see a list of program names exactly like the one in your window of removable programs. Just highlight the ones you want to erase, then at the top of the box click on Edit, then Delete. Once again, please be careful anytime you are using REGEDIT, you can do some real damage.

    Blatantly ripped off of

    here.

I just noticed something interesting about this subject. I uninstalled some software (RefUpdate v1.3by Lava) and it failed to remove the listing from the Add/Remove screen.

I thought I'd be following in your path paulbristow but when I clicked it again just to see what would happen, XP comes forth with a screen telling me perhaps the item has already been uninstalled and would I like to remove the listing. Very nice don't you think. hmmm

Thanks for the input, used the registry settings worked very nicely.

The reason XP never asked me to to remove the setting is because the programs in question were updates to an application, so in theory the old versions existed but if I attempted to uninstall any of them they would have removed my current verson of the application.

Must remember to uninstall old version before installing new version.

    Add/remove programs

    More info on Add/remove -

I had the same problem as Paul Bristow but I could not use Daizy's method because the program I was looking for did not appear in the Uninstall list!

I eventually discovered that the dozen or so very long strings of alphanumerics at the top of the list also represent programs (and other things).

The trick here is to R-click on one of the strings, which brings up enough data in the right panel to enable the program to be identified - having found it, one simply selects delete from the optiond brought up by the R-click. It works like a charm!
