    Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs-> Click on the Add Windows Componets button->Look for games and or Accessories->UNcheck GAMES

    Unless you restrict users from add/remove programs - they can add the games back...

    this is some crazy stuff...lol I tried the step by step and still its not there to be deleted. Im signed on as having admin rights, but the accessories and utilities box is not present. scratching my head! :rolleyes:

    Even went as far as "Unhiding" the games and "Access Util" as written up. still no luck with the components box appearing. Must be a setting with DELL the control freaks! lol

    You nailed it. My bad for not remembering sooner.

    You have a file probably located in \winnt\inf but in any case, somewhere within the windows folder named sysoc.inf and one of it's functions is to hide stuff from add/remove. Simple text file and the entries you need to look for are the ones with the work hide in them. The example below (and yours will have different entries as well as more of them) would not allow pinball and wordpad (among others) to show up as add/remove entries.

    [Version]
    Signature = "$Windows NT$ "
    DriverVer=06/19/2003,5.00.2195.6717

    [Components]
    NtComponents=ntoc.dll,NtOcSetupProc,,4
    Display=desk.cpl,DisplayOcSetupProc,,6
    Fax=faxocm.dll,FaxOcmSetupProc,faxsetup.inf,hide,7
    Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,,7
    AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,,7
    CommApps=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,communic.inf,,7
    media_clips=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,mmopt.inf,,7
    MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,,7
    AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,,7
    Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,hide,7
    MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,hide,7

    But if we remove the word hide leaving the commas so we have

    Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7
    MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,,7

    the items will now show up in add/remove. You can open the file in notepad or any other text editor and remove hide. Just be sure you leave the commas alone as shown above.

    Hi Newt, just wondering . . .
    We've been using this process to remove games for some time, but have always taken OUT the extra comma. Is there a reason it needs to be there?

    No Luck

    I want to thank everyone for their input with this issue. I have tried every instruction here including eliminating the extra (,). Still the games do not appear in add/remove windows components. Makes me wonder if DELL has anything to do with it? I have deleted the folder for each game, but they keep reappearing within seconds. Also, I have renamed the filed, again they reappear. Any further suggestions? I really do appreciate it!

    A bit more info for you

    Hi bpd1002,

    One Q we haven't asked - what service pack are you on?

    And, not to rehash what others have said, but to be specific . . .
    We remove all Games from our W2k Pro installs by editing only the 3 lines listed below in the WINNT\INF\sysoc.inf file by deleting the word hide and its following comma.

    Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,HIDE,7
    AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,HIDE,7
    Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7

    NOTE: The option to remove Games won't show up at all in Add/Remove Programs untill the second line above has been edited.

    Once in Add/Remove, we select the Add/Remove Windows Components (left panel). Inside here, highlight the Accessories and Utilities and click the Details button. This opens a new window with Games. Uncheck its box here to remove all Games, OR highlight the Games line and click the Details button again for a new window to remove specific games.

    Hope these details are of some help.

    Thanks for the reply. After reviewing your posting the following is what it looks like after I saved it:

    Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,7
    AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,7
    CommApps=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,communic.inf,,7
    media_clips=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,mmopt.inf,,7
    MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,,7
    AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,,7
    Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,7
    MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,,7

    Still no luck. I tried it both ways with eliminating one comma to leaving both in place. Stil no luck. The option does not appear in the the Windows Component. Let me back up, the Accessories and Utilities does not show up there for I cant delete the games.

    Also we are running version 5.00.2195 with service pack 4. Any further help is greatly appreciated! Thank You.

    Nope. The red lines are not right and may cause you some problems. Edit again and change them.

    Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,,7
    AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,,7
    Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7

    made the changes again with the red highlighted mentioned above. Still no luck.........

    See heres the deal. The game issue is huge here. These are computers that are installed in police vehicles with GPS tracking. It has been determined that the games interefere with the GPS tracking system and our boss wants any and all games out for that reason. Not sure exactly how the interference is occurring, but I saw it first hand. When pinball is up and running, the GPS freezes and thats it. When you are done playing the game, GPS comes back. Now obviously, we require the GPS to work 24/7. So thats why I have been trying to find a resolve for this issue. XP has been great and the games have been removed from that OP system. Windows 2000, well thats the mother of my drama! lol :mad:

    You can sometimes get away with removing the comma but it is never a good idea.

    It acts as a place holder / field so the .inf file is read as having a blank entry there. Remove the comma and that line is read as having the number 7 where the file should have 'hide', nothing where it should have a number, and terminating abnormally.
