Someone told me recently that their computer was running slow and I suggested coming here and get advice. I hate giving advice because of my expierence. I did remember the old standby of deleting temporary cookies and history. Without looking, I gave him the proceedure for Windows 98 and not XP. I've only had XP about a month and hadn't looked around a lot. When I did this morning, I didn't see any internet options like on 98. Is there a place to delete cookies and history or has XP evolved past that?

From the Browser Page, TOOLS, Then INTERNET OPTIONS. This should open in the GENERAL Section. Both of the options you are looking for are there.

I'm sorry, this XP takes some time getting use to. I couldn't find it at first (internet options) but did right before I came back here to delete this post. Just a big dummy I guess?

Personally, I just use Easy Cleaner by Toni Arts to do the job. I use everything except "Duplicate Files." I've never had a problem. Find the free program at a third party site. The program is free. But Toni Arts wants a fee to join their site. The program is available elsewhere.

By putting the Easy Cleaner icon on the desktop, it just cuts the hassle of having to find the right button buried in Windows somewhere for each of the features.

I have found Easy Cleaner to "under clean," rather than over clean. It will clean out your dead files "good enough" for proper running and maintenance. I'm satisfied with it. I've been using the program for years.

The proof is in the pudding. My computer does't have problems.
