I have been setting a system password to stop people logging onto my computer at school. However, my keyboard was taken out and now everytime i boot the computer i cannot type the password in. The only thing i can press is Enter. Because i cannot type the password all i get is a incorrect password message.

There are four error lights at the back of the computer A-B-C-D.They should all be lit green if the computer is working properly. However D is orange and i need to know what this means. If anyone has a Dimension instruction manual could they please tell me what this means as the computer has very important GCSE Coursework.

    Thanks
    Alex

"Ensure that the cables are properly connected to the system board from the hard drive, CD drive, and DVD drive. "

How can removing a keyboard affect connections to the board? I'm not sure what it means but i also get an error reading "Auxiliary Device failed ". I havn't taken out pieces of hardware apart from the keyboard.

while the computer was closing down, the keyboard was taken out. I then plugged in again and re-booted the computer but i was told there was a "keyboard" & "auxiliary device" failure. I know that a keyboard is needed thanks!

    Hi Alex,

Suggest you have a good look the User Guide/motherboard manual, there may be settings in the BIOS or (I doubt it) some sort of reset.

No chance that the keyboard connection got swapped with the mouse connection? Got me a few times.

If you clear CMOS, you'll also clear the password if what you meant by "system password" is really the user password you set in the BIOS.
    ;)

Just some other thoughts. If the keyboard connection was pulled out while the machine was going, something in the keyboard may have "blown "...try borrowing another keyboard. Alternatively, the BIOS/CMOS may now be reading the keyboard as a "non-standard" type, you may have to reset the BIOS settings to default.

The keyboard works on other computers so i couldn't be that. I did notice one thing though. When i booted up the computer the keyboard looks fine. All the three lights flash and the Num lock turns on. However when i have to enter the password the Num button flashes. It almost looks like its not getting enough power.
