    Hi out there

I am trying to compare to different server (hw) platforms - has anyone out there some performace test-package for an MS SQL 2000 server - like creating a bunch of data - sorting them - reverse the order - selecting data at random etc etc ? with increasing number of (pseudo) users ....

    Regards /ti

    Hi again

Thanks Joe - but it is not exactly what I am looking for - both programs - IOMeter and SQLIO - are fine to test the hw so in a way it is a perfect tool to test IO subsystem with (it is a good start) - but I would also like to test my SQL Server configuration - eg: buffer allocation striping, filegroups etc etc so that I have a uniform number to say - this setup of hw and sql server is the best.
It would also be nice to compare several versions of MS Sql server and maybe Sybase SQL server version

    regards /ti

OSTRESS is pretty sexy, and i think about as good as your gonna get for free for load simulation.

Dont dismiss pure IO subsystem stress, especially with a tool tweaked to write the way sql does. stored procedures can be profiled and optimized, but its usually the disk that makes or breaks sql performance.
