I tried to install a game from 4 CDs a friend had backed up (not warez but I did not wan't to wait for the lengthy beta download). No matter how many times I tried the install would not work, - it just stops a little way in (there are about three different places during the install it does this). I tried to install on both my hard drives, but the result was the same, though he had done an install on his PC from the disks
I assumed the first large data file on the CD was corrupt, so went back to downlaoding the beta installer which is rather large at 2466 MB.

I got up this morning to see that the downloader is still working but I have a message that:

"data written to the disk has failed verification multiple times. It is possible that your hard disk is corrupt "

I did start/run/chkdsk but this just went to 100% and gave no errors. What else can I do to test the disks more thoroughly.

    Many thanks.

    Two things ....

    Start > Run > cmd > Enter

In the command window change to the root of the drive you want to check - C:\

chkdsk /r - note the space and accept to schedule chkdsk at the next boot.

    chkdsk

    and/or ....

most HD manufacturers have diagnostic software available on their site.

Thanks PeteC. I have run a chkdsk /r for both my drives now and it says no problem yet I still can't install this game or download a new copy as it says my disk may be corrupt :(

It's feasible - maybe more than just coincidence that the boards are the same, I really don't know. I guess your friend has a different board?
