I've got a notebook that was previously being used by a business. When I try to change the lan setting I get a message that I'm not allowed and to check with the admin. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Start\Run and type in Regedit and press Enter. In the left pane, navigate to this Key [folder].
    Hkey_Current_User\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network

In the right pane, delete these items if they exist.
    NoNetSetup
    NoNetSetupIDPage
    NoNetSetupSecurityPage
    NoEntireNetwork
    NoWorkGroupContents

    Exit and reboot.

Note:if not at the above Key, then look here.
    Hkey_Local_Machine\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network
