    Hi All,

I keep getting this error message whenever I try to view my laptop from my desktop pc

"\\Laptop is not accessible. Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. "

Here Is the Story and the Situation of my network:

Laptop, Windows 2000 Pro SP2, with various bits of software installed.

Desktop, Windows 2000 Pro SP2, with various bits of software installed. (x2)

Desktop, Windows 2000 Server SP2, running proxy software with a cable modem and printer attached (This server is set as a Primary Domain Controller)

I had to reinstall Windows 2000on to the Laptop; I did this in the normal fashion wipe the disk and start over again. After successfully installing Windows 2000 and Office back on the Laptop I configured the network settings this went well no problems so far, I set the Internet proxy settings and restarted. After it had booted up and asked for the password I tried the Internet to see if it had worked, that worked fine so I knew that it was connecting to the server. When I went in to network neighbourhood and tried to access my desktop it displayed the message "\\Desktop is not accessible. Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." So I tried to access other computer and the same thing happened, I know I have folders shared in both computers the only one it would connect to is the server.

I also tried accessing the laptop from the desktop computer and the same message came up. If there is an option within windows 2000 server that stops this then I would really like to know I have put windows 2000 server on a computer is so that I can learn about setting up and administrating networks, as I have been told that this kind of thing cannot be learnt very well from a book, you have to do it to learn about it.

If any one could help I would be most greatful.

Is the user on your laptop able to access your desktop? And vice versa.
You need to logon as a user that exists on your desktop.

I know mine will be slow when first using a shared folder, but it usually is fast after that.
As for the crashes, I can't say I experienced that.
Is it a hard freeze, or does explorer just quit responding?

I guess I should have also asked if this happens on your laptop and the deskop. And also when you think it is not responding, if you wait a while will it eventually work? And also if you have trouble with explorer other than at this time.
