I just installed xp on my second hard drive and now I cannot get the speakers or the scanner to work. It is telling me t hat they both need new drivers. But I have found drivers for them both and the xp still can't find them on the system. I even put them onto a cd and when it goes searching it dose not even look on t he cd for them.

Is there something here I am not doing right.

    Hello cwdlmdd,

I even put them onto a cd and when it goes searching it dose not even look on t he cd for them.
You're going to have to "lead it by it's nose ". There is a browse option when updating drivers - or anything for that matter.

The Wizard asks a series of questions:

    Install the update automatically (recommended)
Install from a specific location (advanced) This is what you want.

The next page - the option to search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM)

At that point you hve to lead it to the specific driver thru the Browse option or tick the Don't search, I'll specify the file.

    Regards - Charles

    Trouble finding drivers

Ok tried that and it didn't work. It searched the cd and did not find the driver. I am sure that I have the right one. I even thought that since it works in 98 which is on the second hard drive I would have it search there.

I am lost at what to do. Other that getting a sound card that will work on xp.

Sorry I wasn't explicit enough apparently: YOU are going to have to find the specific driver file and double click on it.

That's what I meant by this: or tick the Don't search, I'll specify the file.

Since you write I even put them onto a cd you should know where it is. If you have trouble identifying the specific file, list the file names, maybe someone will know what the driver file is if you don't have documentation on the driver.

    Regards - Charles

    trouble finding drivers

about all I can tell you is that it is called CM18330/c3d audio adapter. I thought that I had found one that is for win 98 but the info said it would work on xp also but I guess not. Since xp will not except it.
