    Nero Express 5.5:
its unclear the following: when I want create Disc image, for the further burning -there are window 'Disc Content "(Add data to your disk) where required files should be placed. Then I need save this project as .iso file. Its unclear- need I first highlight each file in Disc Content window, then click 'Save', or I can save all files without selecting(highlighting) of each file, just click on 'Save' button?

tried both, but not clear this moment still. And there are no instructions in Nero User manual regarding this task.

Kenton, if I understand your question correctly you are wanting to add files to a new cd project, but rather burn them to the disc you want to create an iso file, is that correct?

If that is what you want to do try the following.

    1. Open Nero Express
    2. Create a new Data Disc
    3. Add your files, click Finish when you have added all of the files
    4. You should now see a screen that looks like it is ready to burn the disc. Look at the drop-down list by the "Choose Recorder" option. You should see an option for "Image Recorder ". Select that and then click Burn.
    5. You should now be prompted for a location to save the file. You need to choose the location and also change the "Save as type" to ISO. Click Save.

These are the steps for version 6, but I don't think to much has changed.

    ericiga,

to be more specific, I want create Data disc(exact copy from source CD).

I have one CD burner(drive), so I can no copy source CD and burn it at the same time. So, I need first copy and save source CD on my hardrive as ISO file. After step 3(after all files have been added into layout window) I need save it.
To do this, should I select all files by typing a <Ctrl> +A to select all the files in the layout window, then click 'Save' icon, or just click 'Save' icon, without files selection?

I think you would just click save. I don't think you need to have the files selected, but from your last post it looks like the files are already on a cd and you just want to make a copy of that cd, is that correct?

If that is the case then you need to start Nero Express, and select "Copy Entire Disc ". This should allow you to make any number of copies of a cd. What will happen is you have the source cd in the drive, Nero will read that disc and make a temporary file on your hard drive. Once that is complete Nero will eject the source cd, and ask for a blank cd. If you have selected to make 3 copies then you will be asked for a blank cd three times.

If you still need more assistance let me know and I will try to find a my copy of Nero Express 5.5 so I can see exactly what you are/should be seeing.

Well, I see, i can just use 'Copy Entire Disc' option. What writing speed is best use for error-free copy-16x will OK?
So, another way is create Disc Image to save work at a later time. For this purpose should be used 'Creating Data disc' option or this can be done from 'Copy Entire Disc'?

I would just let it burn at the rate it displays. Mine defaults to the maximum rate, and that has always worked for me.

If the data you want to burn to cd is on your hard drive then you would want to choose create new data disc. If the data is already on a cd and you want to copy that cd, then you would want to choose copy entire disc. In addition to that option, if you have data on a cd and you want to just create and ISO and not actually burn a duplicate cd you could choose copy entire disc, and then for the destination drive select Image Recorder. This will prompt you for a location to save the image to (Nero also defaults to an *.nrg file-type so you would need to change the save as type *.iso).

Does this help clear things up or am I making this more difficult? :)

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. Are you wanting to know if there is a way to determine the maximum speed of the burner? If you click the drop-down box next to "Writing Speed" that should list the speeds that you can burn at. The highest speed would be the maximum rate.

I have the latest version of Nero and I was wondering the same thing yesterday. I finally just used the copy disc function, then copied the temp image it created on the hard drive to another folder.
I would really like to create an image without first having to burn to disc. Just select files on my hard drive and create an image, no CD involved until I'm ready to burn. Burning to disc, then back to the HD is an error waiting to happen.
