    Hello,

I Recently installed a sapphire radeon 128 card in my xp pc.

Since then all sound in video playback has been choppy.

I've updated all drivers for the video and sound card as well as xp itself up to the latest patch.

I've also seen the thread on here about how to properly update video card drivers.alas too late, i'd already wiped my system and built it from scratch anyway.Still choppy audio.

Is it possible this is just due to the configuration of the card rather than a bug or driver problem?

    please, please help me.................

A bit of a shot in the dark here but for starters what size power supply do you have in your machine? Also, download Everest if you don't already have it installed and advise what your current voltage readings are.

    ;)

Your individual voltages look fine but my guess is that you are seriously underpowered for that particular video card at 230 Watts. Would need to know max amperage each of your 3 rails and what else you have in that box. Again - my guess is .........

Interesting theory Rockster. I get, maybe, one or two "chops" during a DVD playback. I have put it down to refilling of buffers, but when I opened my case the other day I found my PSU was a 300W, whereas, I had believed it to be a 350W (if I believe my Toyota is a Ferrari I don't think that will work either). I would be interested if your "guess" was to prove right.

More important is listing the amps of your power supply!!

Once you get into the higher end video cards you need more power.

Post the AMPS of your PS please.

On the 3.3V line, the 5.0 V line, and the 12V line. We all go from from there.

All system specs would help a lot at this point. Drives ect...

    Hi,

    Ok heres some stats:

first the current, this is what it says on the side of my PSU -

    3.3v - 20A
    5v - 30A
    12 - 10A

and i have the following also installed :

    AMD Athlon XP, 1100 MHz (11 x 100)
    512 MB (SDRAM)

On the two IDE buses :

    ST340810A (40 GB, 5400 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100)
    ST380023A (80 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100)
    IBM-DTLA-305030 (30 GB, 5400 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100)
    DVDRW IDE1108

    PCI Slots :

Network Adapter Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
Video Adapter RADEON 9000 SERIES (128 MB)
    Creative SB Live! Sound Card

So, the three voltage lines.Which of those runs to my logic board and then to the pci slots?the 12v line right?

Anyway, thanks for the help and i hope this helps you help me.

    Thanks again,

    Baba

We can forget the technical stuff - get a bigger power supply - you are seriously lacking. That processor alone shouldn't be run on anything under 350W and at 10 Amps on your 12 volt rail - your goose is cooked long before hunting season opens.
