    Hi,

I'm new here. I have an easy question, hopefully.

I wanted to move my computer to the other side of my desk. I unhooked everything to ease the move. When I boot up now, I get the error message:

Windows cannot load user profile because it maybe corrupted. Contact your system administrator.

Can anyone offer any assistance. I'm using win2000 professional with service pack 2.

    Thank you very much,

    Melissa

p.s. I tried editing the registry, it didn't work.

I don't think moving your computer had anything to do with your profile becoming corrupt. More likely how the system was shutdown or for no other reason than things can become corrupt over time.

Anywho, what probably happened was your NTUSER.DAT has become corrupt. You can re-create your profile by renamimg you profile directory under C:\Documents and Settings then logging back in again which will create a new directory and profile. Or delete your existing profile (right click on My Computer, click Propeties then go to the User Profile tab) and login again to create a new profile. With either method you'll have to be logged as someone else (such as the local administrator) in order to rename or delete your profile.
