I recently upgraded Win 98 SE to XP Home and had Tweak UI installed under the Win 98 configuration. Everything came up fine in XP (thank goodness!), but I still have a Tweak UI Icon in my control panel and on my desktop. It will start OK, but I have not tried to use it for any configuration changes since I think I read on this board somewhere that there is a different version that needs to be used with XP (I searched but could not find that specific post in my search). I can't figure out where to look to see what version of Tweak UI is now installed since I don't see a help section. I also don't see a listing for it in my add remove programs so I don't know how to get rid of the version I have now if I need to update it. If I need a new version and download it, will it install over the old version eliminating the need to remvove it first?

TweakUIXP is version 2.00.1.0 and can be seen on the first screen when the program is started.

    TweakUI

You should uninstall the old one before installing the new one.

Thanks for getting back to me.

The problem is I don't know how to uninstall the current version on my PC.

It is not listed in add reove programs, and I can't find an uninstall option anywhere.

Your link appears to be faulty or down

    Royalty

    Try here - v 2.10.0.0

Suggest you download the Win 98 version from here and do a reinstall - if it will let you and then uninstall through Add/Remove Programs.

I THINK I am OK now. We will see. I downloaded and reinstall the version for Win 98, and it then showed up in the add remove prgrams. However, when I tried to uninstall it I got an error that said it looked like the program was already unintalled, and did I want to remove it from the add remove prgrams list. I said yes and went ahead and installed the latest version for XP and it seems to run OK. I can still start the old version for Win 98, but I haven't tried to use it as I don't want to muck anything up. I jsut got rid of the shortcut on my desktop and will just have to ignore that icon in my control panel.

    Thanks for your help.

Royalty, if you want that Control Panel icon for TweakUi gone, first have the Control Panel closed. Use Windows Explorer and look into the C:\Windows\System folder, and delete the file Tweakui.CPL .

Thanks for the suggestion. That way no one will trip over it.

One correction, though. It was in the Windows/system32 folder.

    Thanks again.

One thing I have noticed, though, is now that I have removed this file from the Windows/System32 folder when I reboot I get a RUNDLL error that says it cannot load tweakui.cpl. Do you have any idea how to get rid of that at startup?

Go to Start\Run and type in Msconfig, and press Enter.
Then click on the Startup tab, then uncheck the line for it, then Ok. The next time the computer boots, you will be prompted about a change, put a check in the box for it not to show again, then click OK.
