I don't know if it can be done or not, but I would like to be able to set one user account to log onto Windows with only the a certain select programs running at startup such as my anti-virus and hot sync software. This way I do not have to right click and close every little application in the task tray. Essentially, I want to be able to log on to my computer with a user account for maximum memory and little hassle.

I had thought there might be a way to do this with group policies, but I haven't figured that out - if even possible.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. Thanks to any who can help!

Each user and the "ALL" users have a folder that looks like this:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

That doesn't work for this case. In fact, I have nothing in any of my start up folders for any of my users. I'm looking along the lines of the Startup tab in MSconfig. Those are the programs I want to control per user at start up, but changes there will affect all users.

It will probably require some digging in the Registry or possibly within each program that is being started automatically.

If you can't find an option within the program to stop it from being auto-started, then examine the Registry RUN keys. Export, then delete each command string you don't want to auto-start. Save the exported keys for backups until you decide they won't be needed.

Then create shortcuts for those programs and place them in whatever users StartUp folder you choose. That way you can tailor it to suit yourself.

Incidentally, there are many Start Up control programs that will help point you to the source Key needed to kill any particular Application.
