How do I keep 4.7 from coming up when I log onto the internet? I now use 6.2, and would like it to come up automatically. Thanx!

    Hi Luckyfish,

Have you designated 6.2 as your default browser? Also, what OS are you using?

Are you using ICQ as well?
Your can disable ICQ auto launching the browser when it started.

    Ramona and Antony:

I've made 6.2 my default browser many times..did it once more, and this time 4.7 didn't come up! Amazing!

Confession: I don't know what ICQ is, Antony.

    Ramona, I'm using Windows 98.

Another glich, though. Netscape 6.2 's hompage used to come up when in exited 4.7, and clicked on 6.2 from my desktop. Now, my ISP home page NetZero comes up...which I hate!

Now 6.2 launches automatically (which is what I wanted), only it's the wrong browser 'homepage'. I want it to be Netscape instead on Netzero. Any ideas? Thanx! :p

    Luckyfish,

To change the opening/homepage, go to:
    Edit | Preferences | Navigator

You can select your Homepage there.

As a sidebar note, we're never interested in the NS homepage, or its contents as it just takes longer to load. Since we all must have something to begin, we simply use Google, as it loads extremely fast.

    dmz1967,

Excellent suggestion! You can also use a "blank" page, and that's a swift download as well.

blank page is my best recommendation.

    Luckyfish,

ICQ is the one of the messenging programme around, free.
There are some other problem which you might have set them to launched automatically when starting up. Some of those will launch internet browser.

Since your problem has been fixed, don't worry about others.

Ramona, and Member Antony and dmz1967:

What a terrific idea to use Google as home page; it does load much faster!! I prevented the 'spash' from coming up when Netscape loads: http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns61splash.html#spl

However, I still have the problem of the automatic launch of Netzero's homepage
via Netscape whenever I log onto the internet! If I exit (after the load), then click on Netscape from the desktop, I'm fine...no splash, and direct connection to Google!! Yea!!

How can I prevent the unnecessary step of the auto launch of Netzero's home page, and instead, have the auto launch of Goggle??? Thanks again!! Luckyfish

So you want to auto launch Netscape when you start up your computer with Google as the default homepage?

As similar to the tech article "NetZero Launches Every Time I Turn on My Computer " (thanks Ramona)

You can create a link to the startup of your Start Menu, you can
    either
create a URL link similar to one in the tech article, but linked to Google.com
    or
create a short cut of launching Netscape (just copy the Netscape link from your desktop to StartUp folder.)

    Ramona and Antony:

Thanks for the NetZero link. I don't think that's my situation, though. NetZero doesn't come up when I start my computer...I have to double click on the desktop. The problem is that after I log on to Netzero, I want the homepage to be Google instead of Netzero's. I've already made Google my start/home page. It comes up that way IF I click onto Netscape; however, I have to first start NetZero to be online....right??

Another question....while looking at the link you provided, and going to Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Startup
there is NOTHING in the Startup folder. Is there supposed to be?

    Thanx in advance! Luckyfish

    Hi Luckyfish,

Now we're down to issues that are not Netscape. These are NetZero issues, and you probably should be dealing with them, or at least checking their Tech. Support site, which is pretty good for a free ISP.

    This is what I found:

Note: NetZero is not compatible with Netscape 6 at this time.
    02-14-2002

Can I use Dial-Up Networking (DUN) to Connect to NetZero?

After connecting, your browser should launch automatically and you will be able to manually launch any other Internet application or surf the Internet as you choose.
    ---
The fact that you have nothing in your StartUp folder is "Excellent ". The less you have there, the better your system will run!

    Hello LuckyFish,
    most likely yes.
You should connect by using NetZero's programme for dailing up. When you click that icon to get connected the browser should not be automatically launched, if it is launched automatically (and point to NetZero's homepage), then it is likely the NetZero dailup's property, it fired the link to its homepage as well.

Try just (before you get connected) open Netscape and see if it will ask you to connect by using NetZero? Remember to check the setting under IE's Tool | Internet Options | Connection

    Ramona and Antony:

Thanks for the suggestions and links, Ramona. I can't believe NetZero says they are not compatible with 6.2--news to me. As far as I can tell, they are compatible, except for the launch problem. I think you are right, Antony...Netzero automatically links to their home page, and there is no way around it...for now anyway. I tried what you said, bringing up 6.2 first and seeing if it prompted me to log on. It didn't, it just gave me the message--'connect failure'.

A small price to pay. I'll continue to log on, then go to mail. Looks like I won't be able to go to Google automatically for the faster load.

BTW, when I go to mail, my 6.2 home pages loads at the bottom (resulting in a slow load), until I go to a message. Can I make THIS load Google? Where would that be?

    Thanx, as always! Luckyfish :p

    Luckyfish,

Netzero automatically links to their home page, and there is no way around it...for now anyway.

This is probably due to their software that you have to use.

You can disable the Netscape Newsletter that comes up with the Mail program. This is found in Edit|Preferences|Mail & Newsgroups|Mail Start Page

Remove the tick and Mail will load much faster. I don't think you want to put anything there, as it would only slow you down.

One more thing on your dialup. Did you check your settings in Internet Options? That would be Start|Settings|Control Panel|Internet Options

Click on the Connections tab, there you have three choices similar to these:

    Never dial a connection
Dial whenever a network connection is not present
    Always dial my default connection

    Which one is enabled?

    Ramona :D
