Converting .wav to mp3

I have several audio and CD apps that may do this but I cannot seem to find the directions for doing it.

I have CDs that I can play and do play in my car. But storing them on my computer takes a lot of space. I want to convert them to MP3 and I am almost certain that some apps I have do it. I want to avoid buying something else just for this purpose altho and freeware thing would be acceptable.

I like CDex and Musicmatch Jukebox. They're free and easy to use.
