I recently started using Firefox, I like it alot, the problem is that I am unable to use it at one particular site, I own this site its a message board, I am able to view search ect. but I am not able to post threads or reply to threads. But when I use internet explorer I have no problems. I have looked over my site and can not see any reason why this is happening, I have even posted about this at the support forums for mozilla firefox, with no help as of yet there.

TIA for any help and/or suggestions.

I think you have to sign in on the BBS in order to set a cookie with FF. I don't think you are allowed to post to a board unless you are signed in.

Bill is correct. You have to get an username and password, in order to reply or send posts. This is not only very common, but pretty much the rule, to avoid spamming.
As for Firefox, I have it set up to clear cookies after the session. I don't know if IE has anything of the kind. Anyway, you can see the advantage of having a browser part of the operating system.

I made the switch about 6 months ago. I have never looked back. Firefox is hands down way better...and getting better.

One site I know for certain, has nothing to do with the BBS but rather technology(client -side scripting) is http://support.microsoft.com/

I am forced to use IE eny time I need microsoft help...from microsoft. Otherwise I have never come across any problems.

gonecountry...what are the bbs engines being used. For instance, if you look at the bottom of this site, you will see "powered by vBulletin ".

Try enabling cokies for that site. From tools>options>privacy>cookies. If you have cookies turned off, you can create an exception rule.

    Hope this helps

In order to sign in automatically on a board, it must set a cookie on your browser. Otherwise, the site has no idea you are trying to sign in. The site doesn't know you are the owner I suppose.

In other words, yes, they should be checked if you want to sign on automagically.

Can you give the website, so that I can see if it is a general problem, or what, or have you asked other people? I am sure that it is a client side problem, but it is strange that you own the message board, and can't use it the way you want it. So, you can get in, but can't reply or post.
Did you save the password with FF? It may have been entered inccrrectly.
    You can check Tools|Options|Privacy|Saved passwords

    gonecountry,

    What are your cookie settings?
Have you tried disabling your Firewall and then trying to post on the web site?
Try removing your password for the site, from Password Manager (if you use Password Manager) and then re-enter the password.

Maybe I can think of some other workarounds in the meantime...

gonecountry...STEP AWAY FROM the UNINSTALL BUTTON :D

I was able to test as well from Mozilla 1.7

Vbulletin,as is the case with other BBS's, has user groups. Depending on the administrative settings, you can configure certain groups to have different access rights.

Try creating a new account for testing and see if you can get in with the test account. You may need to use another email account. Some BBS's use the email account as a unique identifier to prevent people from having multiple login accounts for the same email account.

Maybe your admin account doesn't have posting priveldges. Strange = yes, but possible.

I also am still leaning towards Ramona's questions about cookies. When you log in and go to a new thread, does the top bar still say your logged in, or is it asking for you to log in again.

If it is asking for you to log in again, even after you just logged in, then I still say it's a cookie setting issue in your browser set-up.

Thanks all but tried it all and no luck. Also when using mozilla there are small changes to the look of the site.

Example theres a verticle line in the header thats not there and shouldn't be there, thens all the tabs are underlined on the homepage which they shouldn't be, all the tables in the forums have added borders to them which they shouldn't and I am missing graphic pictures on the main page in several blocks.

Mozilla just does not like VB or vice versa.

The way a website looks largely depends on the coding of the webpage. Holy wars have been started over which browser to use. Basically, IE will/may render the page differently because of the way it interprets the code. There are ways in which a page can be cross-browser compliant...namely using CSS, which is probablly beyond the scope of this thread.

The fact that the presentation (look and feel) of your site is different, is no surprise. Different ways of coding are sometimes NOT cross-browser compliant.

If you have added "things" to the code of the page, you should proably review the compatibilty of the code for multiple browsers. While you may go back to IE, there will definitely be users using other browsers.
