It sounds like the type of spellchecker which I would like. I, already, downloaded the .zip version, and will try it with another profile.
I tested and love it. I just checked the Options|Composition and checked the box to Check Spelling as I type.
I entered three errors, "spielchecker ", "gud" and "fud ". The last two had a correct spelling out of ten or so given. The first was beyond any available dictionary. Although I don't like spellchecker this is good. I like something fast.
Ok, now where is the Firefox spellchecker? Did I miss an extention for FF?

This is great news. I routinely use Mulberry in preference to Thunderbird becuase it will spell check as I type and because I can choose where to file the copies of my sent emails.

Is there any development in this area for Thunderbird?

    Labarum,

I'm sure you meant Firefox, and to the best of my knowledge there is none yet. However, perhaps this project will be expanded for that purpose.

Labarum must have meant Thunderbird, because Mulberry is a mail thing. And, this build is answering the question which you posed having spellchecking as you go.
As for saving the Sent mail, I am not aware that there was any restriction in TB.
One additional note. I noticed that the Spellchecker Thunderbird (TB-sp for short) says that it is version 0.6+, while the last version of TB is 1.0.
Nothing wrong with this. I, actually, noticed a plus in TB-sp. In the are where it says Folders, it has the small icon, found in Netscape or Mozilla, which allows to specify the total size of the folders, number of e-mails read. I like the total size, because it gives me a feeling of what is going on with the folders, and need for compacting. I am not talking about the size of the individual e-mail. I can make the selection in TB-sp, but there is nothing but "Folders ", in 1.0.

Has anybody tried Mozillazine. I get connection refused.

    Westside,

MozillaZine is down. I've tried to get there several times this afternoon, and the connection always times out.

You think Labarum really meant TB? He said that it was great news that TB has Spell Check as you type, as he uses Mulberry ONLY because it has Spell Check as you type...

You may be 100% correct, and I misunderstood.

Don't mean to step on anyones fire, but I still prefer tinySpell for my spell checker. The nice feature, it spell checks everywhere. In Netscape, Mozilla Suite (browser and Email), Firefox, ThunderBird, IE, -- AND --- any view from Explorer in which you would be typing. Also is active in any Word processor I've used (two dictionary checking). The one place it does NOT check is "username / password" fields. Provides a couple of different user interfaces. It's one less feature I do not have to update / reinstall when updating my browser. I love the Extension feature(s) for Firefox, but immediately after a new release / install you know you will be missing some extensions until their updated.

    Dennis,
you will have to tell me how you use tinySpell. It may be checking the spelling, but in Mozilla1.7.5, I can enter whatever I want, and it goes right on.
On purpose, I entered: "I kan inter watever I wint, und eet goos rite un "
It was perfect for tinySpell. Or do I have to wait till I am done?
I am giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I don't get a clue from it.
As for the extention in Firefox, you are probably correct, and it may more problems that I have not noticed. But, it will not accept any passwords from my wife, and I am not prompted when the passwords are deleted, until I restart Thunderbird-sp. But, the spellchecking is first class
Interestingly to some of you, @aol.com is not acceptable, although @cox.net is. I wonder how it treats @msn.com?

I believe tinyspell gives only an audible warning of a misspelling and does not mark the screen. I do not routinely have the PC sound on, and even if I did I might easily miss a beep.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Hi Westfield

    tinySpell has an unconventional approach.
It can only check "one word" at a time.
It can not check a document that has been previously typed.
It uses the "space Bar" to invoke the spell checking action and cycle.

When you finish typing a word and you push the ''space bar" (to start typing the next word), it validates if the word you just finished is correct. If not, it will issue an audio "beep" through your computer. You can continue typing the next word, but before you push the "space bar" you must correct your previous misspelled word .... which you do as follows.
To display the "popup word list" I use a user assigned hot key shortcut. When I hear the beep, I immediately push Ctrl + S. List comes up, if on top of list, just hit enter key. If not, move cursor to correct word, click. If your spelling is correct, you can "add" the word to the dictionary.
If you enjoy listening to music via your computer, you need a volume control in the player. This allows two volume settings, one for music and a higher volume for the audio beep. tinySpell maybe a love/hate program. I started using it a number of years back. It worked in all the forums, any browser, anywhere I typed. I just did not like posting in "WORD" and copy paste. Is it perfect, no. It's like most programs ... correct most of the time.
Hey, most of us are running windows. :D

    Dennis,
it depends on what you are used to, and I have got to like the Eudora/ microsoft mail style, which underlines words thought to be mispelled. That is really on the fly. I did not like the Netscape speller, so, you can image what I thought of tinySpell.
I really have something that I am used to, with the spell checker in TB. I have not looked if it was customizable, but so far, it is the only type of spell checker which I would use. I hope that it can become incorporated in TB, rather than be a quickly incompatible extention, as you said before.

.. it depends on what you are used to ...

    We are creatures of habit.
I would agree, underlined or highlight / correct at anytime is a better UI. But it appears to be a tough program to write and be compatible / interactive with all programs. I was looking for "spell checking" anyplace, anytime I type on my computer.
