A friend has a new PC as listed below and sometimes windows will shutdown
as far as the splash screen and then go no further so the only way to powerdown is to push and hold power button.
Has anyone had simular?, apart from this which is a little anoying everything works ok.
Just hoping that it may be a simple solution?

    Thank in advance.

    Rodger.

    Hello rodger,

How are the Power Options in the Control Panel set up?

What's running when attempting to shutdown? Does ending apps/processes help?

Is there a "can't end" process message? Any messages at all?

    Regards - Charles

Rodger, forgot about another indicator to look at.

Right click on My Computer > manage > and you'll see Event Viewer > expand the 3 categories, and look at anything that's has a red error mark next to it for around the time of the problem.

    Regards - Charles

Edit: If you right click on the line(s) > properties, you'll see a doc symbol button, clicking on that will paste it to the clipboard and from there, bring up wordpad or notepad and just paste.

we are hopeful that we nailed it !!

first off put a short cut to shutdown on desktop and ran this a few times and
and then had a message that windows was having problems shutting down
DRST.exe which is a diagnostic prog for wanado Broadband Modem.

so took that little gem off as didn't need it and since then all seems ok!!

thanks for replys and hope that this may help someone else sometime.
