    It happens when receiving mail.

Ramona, I had this problem almost two years ago and you recommended some changes... seems I tried them and the problem went away but now it's back.
I have tired them all except rebuild mail profile.

I will mention, about 2 weeks ago I installed the Foxfire browser.
I see that 7.1 and Foxfire have their own profile so don't guess that is a problem.

Do I need to rebuilt my mail profile folder or maybe install a newer mail system or uninstall and reinstall 7.1?

    Thanks

We can eliminated Firefox (although I like the name Foxfire, but it must have been taken), since it has no mail. What type of account are you using. Don't give the entire address, just the part after the @.
Also, are you using 7.01 or 7.1 (the decimal points count)? It is important to know if you may have installed a new program, without uninstalling the previous one, or worse yet if a program is installed on top.
We will need some additional info. Do you have a link to the previous post to Ramona.

    arkie,

Are you using Firefox as your default browser and 7.01 as your Mail Client? Do you want to fix 7.01, which is very old, has security issues, bugs, etc. which have been addressed in Mozilla 1.7.5, and of course Firefox. Having said that, as you are using Firefox, you could try Thunderbird, which I have found to be a most stable Mail Client.

Lemmeno which way you want to go...

    Ramona,

Yes, I started using FireFox back couple weeks, haven't switched default from IE just yet. And 7.01 is for mail. So far today, no more problems. I went back to my old post to where you helped me and tried your suggestions.

Wife trust 7.01 for banking more than IE. After reading about Firefox I been pushing her to switch to Firefox and I will see that she reads your post.

So you recommend me switching to Thunderbird,... sounds great! I feel you know best. Anything special about switching?

Since Christmas my cable mail server was hacked and I been getting 25 spams a day. They say they are working on the problem. I have the filters set to catch 75% of it. Probably Thunderbird could handle that better?

Also I use Composer for web pages, guess there is no way to keep just it?

    Foxfire!!

    Thanks :)

    Arkie,
I am leaving to Ramona to reply to any specific details, but I would like to add my two cents of past experience. I am using Firefox1.0 as default browser, and Thunderbird as default client. In fact, I just made a payment online to a credit card account. And, I am happy with this combination, especially because my keyboard is smart enough to recognize what is default, and all I have to do is to press the Internet and e-mail buttons, and, I am in business (all this without any configuration changes).
Netscape 7.01 is pretty old, and security holes have been found, and fixed. Even the best available Netscape (7.2) is not as secure as Mozilla 1.7.5 or Firefox 1.0. There is a continuous development, and the more these program are going to go mainstream, the greatest the chance of finding them to be potentiall insecure. Prudence tells me that I should be with what is most likely to be secure, but who knows what lurks around the corner?
There is no problem with switching if you know how to deal with Netscape or Mozilla profiles, and I leave it at that, for now.
As for Spam, I have server-based controls, and from 50-60 pieces of junk, I have been way down, but some do go through. In fact, my ISP does not know what to do with repeated e-mails with no subject, sender nor body.
I found out that all had in common, a "-" as sender, so, I can apply Filters. But, there is no reason to expect that Thunderbird has better spam controls than NS7.1. As for Composer, there is no separate program that I know of, so you have to look into the past.

    Westside,
    Thanks for the input.
As for as spam, I never had any until my server was hacked... seems the hacker lifted everyone's address. I've never had a security problem with 7.01 or even with IE and I don't want any. If there is something better I want to be using it. I really like Firefox.. all except the spell checker is not quite as smart as IE Spell check. They have to be pretty sharp for my poor spelling. :D

    arkie,

This KB Article will give you all the information on installing Thunderbird for the first time. I will tell you anyway, that it will automatically migrate your Netscape 7 Profile/Mail, so it's a no-brainer.

Read this: Thunderbird : FAQs : Migrate from Mozilla or Netscape

Unfortunately there is no stand alone Composer yet, but there is an ongoing project.
