I just got off the phone with Canon tech support and still need help. Here is what is going on.

This past weekend I reformated my hard disk, installed Windows XP Pro and SP2. I've got everything working except my Canon ip1500 printer. According to Canon I am missing "USB Printing Support" and because of this my printer won't install correctly.

When looking at the device manager I have 4 USB root hubs and 4 USB controllers. Canon says I should also have the USB Printing Support. When I install the printer it shows up under the USB controllers but reads ip1500 and Canon Support says it should read USB Printing Support. Then they say it is a Windows problem and they can't help.

I don't understand why it isn't there and hope someone is able to help in this arena.

    Thanks, Dick :)

I have a USB printer (Samsung ML-1510). When I switch it on a USB Printing Support object appears. So I don't think cannon are completely wrong - in spite of being unhelpful.

I'd suggest you look at the USB side of things rather than printer. When you reinstalled, did you install any motherboard drivers (the USB system is usually part of the motherboard)? If not identify your motherboard*, go to the manufacturer's website and see if you can down load USB drivers for the motherboard.

*Identifying the motherboard can be hard work. If your lucky you'll have the motherboard manual which will give you the make and model. If you have a manufactured PC, the manufacter's support site/team should be able to point you in the right place for drivers. If neither of the above, you'll need to have a good look at the board itself and see if you can spot a make and model number (not always obvious on cheaper boards).

To get details of your motherboard download Everest and look under - Motherboard :)
