When I save email drafts to my draft folder, it saves, but then the folder is empty. What settings should I have for preferences? If I try to make a setting change, it won't hold and reverts back to what was there before.

    kbrei,

What browser, and browser version are you using? What preferences do you use for saving Messages to the Draft folder? We need much more information before we can help you.

    Thanks!

Also into which Draft folder are messages saved. Even with one account there should be an Account Draft and a Local folders Draft.

    kbrei ...

At the risk of being accused of not cutting Ramona enough slack :))), what we really need to know is what email client, and version, you're using.

I'm using Thunderbird 1.0, and the settings are found in Tools > Account Settings > Copies & Folders. In the example shown, "JSS" is my email account. When I'm writing a message, Ctrl + S saves the message in the Drafts folder, but doesn't close the composition window. Any subsequent Ctrl + S updates the saved draft.

    We're using Netscape 7.2

In the preferance window Copies and Folders, nothing is checked. If we check anything, nothing holds. Despite the fact that nothing is checked on Sent or Templates, those two folders work. Anything saved to Draft an error message says "Copy failed. Error copying message to sent folder. "

I had a similar problem with an earlier version of Tbird. As I recall, I had to uninstall and reinstall it. Be sure to back up your profile before doing so, just in case.

We're trying to save into the account draft folder, not the local folders. The baffling thing is not being able to check any options on the Accounts Settings, Copies & folders windows....if they are checked and OK is entered, when the setting windows is brought back up, all checks are gone. And a correction the first post--we cannot save at all. If Save or Save As is used, the error messages come up.

    kbrei,

When in Preferences, are you using your default account in which to place the "Sent ", "Drafts ", and "Templates" messages? Often, Netscape doesn't retain settings and it is necessary to set them more than once.

    Try this:
    Close Netscape
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your Mail Account folder
Delete all files with an MSF extension. Do NOT delete any files WITHOUT the extension, as these files contain your mail.

Let us know if this helped.

Why do you want to save in the Draft folder? The error you give tells me that you are trying to send and save the mail, and nothing is checked, and it should be.
The Draft folder, formerly known as Unsent, is for messages which have not been sent for some reason.

    kbrei,

Something in your Profile is corrupt, and hopefully deleting the MSF file will fix it. If not, then create a folder, and move all messages in your Sent, Drafts, and Templates folders, to that folder. Most importantly, make a backup of your Mail folder before doing any more editing.

    Close Netscape
    Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to the Mail Account Folder
Delete both the Sent and Sent.msf files
    Drafts, and Drafts.msf files
    Temples, and Templates.msf files
Netscape will rebuild these files when restarted

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

No msf files are listed in the folders. Are we in the wrong location? We're in the folders under Netscape users mail folders.

We have found and deleted all msf extensions. An error still comes up when trying to save to Drafts "Status Copy Failed. There was an error copying the message to the sent folder. Retry." The message then is saved into the sent folder but not the draft folder.

    kbrei,

If you are running Windows XP, then do this in order to show hidden files:
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

I also have another question for you: are you using McAfee SpamKiller? If so, this could very well be the problem. This is a bugzilla report that deals with this specific problem and one of the culprits is McAfee SpamKiller:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=221386#c18
Mozilla doesnt save the " Copies and Folders " page in the " Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings "

    kbrei,

Did you try moving messages out of the Drafts, Sent, and Templates folders, then removing both the files with no extensions (Drafts, Sent, and Templates) and Drafts.msf, Sent.msf, and Templates.msf files? Then restart Netscape and see if you can save to Drafts.

I just had a brain surge... when you are in the Copies and Folders Preference page, When sending messages, automatically: Place a copy in:
do you select "Other" "Drafts Folder on:" your Mail Account ?

THEN do you close Netscape so the Preference can be written to your prefs.js file?
