    Hi,

I have w2k pro and I'm not entirely sure it is the os that's the problem. However, until recently, when I switched the computer on and as it's booting up I was presented with a dialogue box (connect, cancel, disconnect) enabling me to click 'connect' and hey presto, everything ok and programs connecting with no problems. The dialogue box has now disappeared and none of my programs can access the internet until I open the btinternet/yahoo (my isp) browser and sign on with them. I never used to have to do this, indeed, I very rarely did it. Can anyone explain or inform me how to retrieve the dialogue box and make my life easier! I have a broadband connection with a Thomson SpeedTouch USB modem.

    Cheers.

That seems really odd behavior unless UK broadband (ADSL probably) behaves very differently than in the US. I'd expect you to be able to connect at any time after you were booted up simply by opening a browser window. The various connection dialogs were mostly a dial-up thing.

What browser do you run? There may be some settings to tweak.

You're right Newt, it is odd. Before I could open any browser and I would get the sign on dialogue, now I can only access by opening the btyahoo (my isp) browser (which I haven't used for ages) and signing on to BTyahoo. I use mainly Firefox and Mozilla browser with minimal use of Slim Browser, and I do have adsl. I understand what you mean about the dial up dialogues, I had them when I had dial up, but following upgrade to broadband, I then had 2 dialogue boxes, both different, and now I am offered none. Simply starting the computer will not give me direct access, bummer!

    Cheers
