programs crash on win xp pro

when i try to run programs they've started to crash.only things i've done recently is install new RAM (an extra 512mb),and downloaded the microsoft anti-spy,aswell as the new patch.since then the problems have occured.at first,whenever i tried to shut down or restart,it took 5 minutes to actually do the process.so i tried system restore to get rid of the patch i put onto the pc and that cured the problem,it shuts down fine now.but whenever i try to add a program to norton internet securitys program list,it just crashes.i've tried installing a game called wulfram and that just doesn't load up at all, and i've downloaded registry mechanic but that crashes also

 

i haven't tried removing it yet,but it should be compatible.i installed 256mb around 8 months ago.this new ram is the same type (pc2100),just a larger amount of RAM on it.i've also put it into the first DIMM slot on my pc so even if it was the wrong type, my pc wouldn't boot up at all wouldn't it?

 

i've just uninstalled wulfram and now registry mechanic works.just done a scan and found 191 problems! im starting to think the game is the problem

 

Reads like and excellent idea. If nothing other than to find out.

By any chance was that restore point one that was made BEFORE the new RAM was installed ?

This is a question raised from one of my own mistakes. Added a new Sound card. Had problems. Used the WRONG restore point. WORSE problems.

still haven't tried taking out the RAM as seems like too much hard work
however,things seem to be working ok so far.registry mechanic doesn't crash,norton doesn't crash...and all this was sorted when i had uninstalled wulfram properly.tried installing the game again and things still work ok,but the game doesn't work.can't figure out why though
