Need "Notepad" software for 98se so I can run hijack this.

1st off I've getting quite the "education" in the last year about viruses. I have visited here several times before and found it helpful I now run Ad-Aware SE, Spyboot and use Norton IS 04. (BTW the new adaware SE is much better than the old one---I downloaded it per Lonnys suggestion last month on another topic, I'm glad I did!) And I just ran CWSshredder and got rid of 2 nasty programs. But I believe there is more junk yet to be discovered, so I need to run hijack this. Well according to the Hijack this thread on the other virus removal forum, it'll copy the HT log file onto notepad. But I do not have it the way it looks. It is listed on acc -but when I click it--it get an explore type of window as if you clicked my computer and clicked explore several times. And nothing is in the listed in program files. And I have a couple of files on notepad that will not open up as it prompts you to choose which software to open it up with.... So I do not think I have it. I also ran a search-nope nothing here on it either. And I also ran a search on the MS KB, and nothing there either-that surprised me, but they have pretty much quite supporting 98se the way it looks. Anyways, it has been well over a year since notepad "disappeared" . And the obvious of loading a 98se disk is not an option being I bought the computer from an after market reseller of lease returns about 4 years back. I'm trying to clean up this computer so I can give it to my Mom for her email and surfing use as I've got a new laptop that I'm going to use. For in case it matters, I run Off 2000. Sooooooo.... I need to find a way to get notepad. Does anybody have any suggestions? Is there a site where I can download it? or ???

Many viruses are known to infect this file as well as the riched*.dll.
Have you done a file search to see if you have just misplaced this thing?
Do you have a win98* cd?
It can be replaced via control panel>add/remove>windows components> category accessaries (I believe).

It takes while for the active X install and the download to finish.
So Wait until its says succeeded for all files, you might have to hit refresh if it reports a failed. select all drives scan, Try to cure/repair, if it cannot choose delete!

Dah!!! Sorry, I see you have searched and you do not have a win98 cd. I would strongly reconsider continuing to run win98* without the cd. This is a much needed item!!! You can only be running on borrowed time without it. Mom is going to need it for sure. Surely it can be bought quite inexpensively now. As much as I loved win98 challenges I would consider this a much bigger challenge than even I cared to take...
