During the Xmas period I received an email which was inadvertently erased. Is there any way to recover deleted emails.

Admin Note: Forum Posting Rule #3 calls for a meaningful title and listing your browser version and OS version did not qualify. Since you are new, I changed it for you.

Search your PC for *.dbx files (assuming OE 6) or look for the location of your message store from OE ....

Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder.

The folder you want is Deleted Items. dbx. There is a chance that the mail you want is still in there. To view the contents of a *.dbx folder you need something like DBXtract

    Recovery of emails

I found the following web site outlining the DBXtract software. Have you had any experience with this one and is it safe to download.

    http://www.updatexp.com/tip23.html

    Followed the previous instructions i.e.
tools...options...maintenance...store folder and found the location for emails but presume I need the DBXtract software to access. Am I correct?

I just tried the DBX software and unfortunately if your deleted items folder is empty, the program has nothing to extract.

You do not need DBXtract to find the Deleted Items.dbx file, but you will need it to view the contents (at least to see the contents as other than code).
Do you have a Deleted Files.dbx file?
P.S. Is it safe to download DBXtract. Never had any problem, but you can always scan with your antivirus program before installing.

My suggestion to look in the Deleted Items.dbx folder was based on the behaviour of OE on my desktop on which the Deleted items.dbx folder just seems to grow in size although the Deleted Items Folder is emptied automatically when closing OE. From time to time I delete it.

FYI - my OE Store Folder is on another drive and not in the usual place Documents and Settings.

When the Deleted Files.dbx file gets too large (which may prevent further deletion), you can also Compact. File|Folder|Compact.

    Jim

That's another oddity on my desktop with the message store on another drive and on the laptop with the message store in another folder (copied from the desktop each time I go away and vice versa when I return) - the Local File Clean Up Files dialogue box shows zero files and the Browse button - doesn't!
