    Hey all,

This is strange & curious.

Does anyone know why Zone Alarm would uncheck itself on the pop up warnings?

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that ZA was not popping up any warnings for a whole evening. That seemed strange, so I went & looked. Sure enough, the checkmark for that was gone. I re-checked it. It worked fine for a few nights, then the checkmark disappeared again. I've gone through this procedure several times in the last couple of weeks. It keeps unchecking itself. I swear it does.
    ZA Pro v2.6.357

No one else messes with my computer either. I am the only user, and unless I am unchecking the thing in my sleep, I'm not doing it. I'm not prone to sleepwalking either. :D

Zone Alarm settings are all saved in your registry, it could be that your regisrty is corrupt in some way,

There is a new version of ZA out at the minute, version 3 (something)

Try obtaining the upgrade. if not try removing ZA, rebooting and reinstalling , let me know how things go, if all else fails i will send you the new version..

    You'll find the solution here.

But if you'd rather try a different fix, it's possible that the iamdb.rdb file may be corrupt so delete it from the Windows\Internet Logs folder and reboot. ZA will recreate the file with the default settings. Also delete the file with the extension .ldb (in the same folder as previously mentioned). Bure sure to shut down ZAP before deleting these files.

I'd be inclined to suggest that, contrary to Wazz's advice, you delay upgrading to ZAP 3. Whilst it's running smoothly for many users, there are nonetheless quite a few people who are experiencing difficulties with the upgrade.

    Wazz,

I tried the ZA 3. Didn't like it at all. Too many things it wanted to do that I didn't want it to do & I couldn't seem to get it to quit doing them. Thanks anyway.

    brett,

I will try your suggestions & see what happens. I had this same version on here before I had to re- format & re-install, which was about five months ago & it never did that, and afterwards didn't do it until just a couple weeks ago. In fact this version has never given any real problems before. I thought it was rather strange that it suddenly started this cute little thing of unchecking itself.:)

    Thanks for the info.

Will let you know how it works out. Of course it may take several days to find out, because it would be fine for a few days then do it again. :)

ZA can be contrary. I tried disabling it from loading and then couldn't browse anywhere. Same thing happened when I uninstalled it. Keep the install file handy if you make any changes and suddenly can't browse. It was the only way I could restore browsing. Before ever having to reformat because of ZA, try this:

Hmmm. So why do you use such a "contrary" application?

    :D

You could maybe try something a little less contrary.

There's quite an interesting discussion concerning the merits of some alternatives here.

brett, thanks. I've heard of all the "other" firewalls but not that one. I use a Linksy's router with DSL, but still feel a tad safer with a software wall in addition. May give your suggestion a try.

Well guys, I had a doctors appointment today so I haven't really had a chance to try anything yet.

    Brett,

I read where Kerio is made by the same guy that made Tiny firewall & that Kerio is basically a carbon copy of Tiny. If that is the case, then I will pass on Kerio, because I tried Tiny once & it messed up my computer real bad. Immediately upon installation, it re-set a lot of my Internet settings, messed up my e-mail program by removing my account name & password & just wrecked havock in general & I hadn't even gone ito it yet to tell it what I wanted it to do. I figured I didn't want such an invasive program, so I removed it. Then went & put all of my settings back to the way they had been & didn't have anymore problems after that. I knew it was Tiny that had done it, because it was the only program I had installed for quite some time, so it had to be the culprit. So if Kerio is basically the same program, it won't work on my computer. However I will check out your other alternatives. :)

    DMZ1967,
Your link looks interesting & I will read it to see if it can shed some light.

I think I will try to fix ZA first, before anything else. This is the only real trouble I've had with ZA Pro 2.6.357, and I have no idea what caused it to start doing it.

I will let everyone know if I get it fixed or not. :)

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the replies & help.

Nothing too serious, I hope :)

    Correct.

Kerio actually tends to cause far fewer problems than most other PF's but, I suppose, not everything works well every machine. Both ZAF and ZAP can cause problems with the installation of other PF's if they're not uninstalled correctly (I cannot believe that ZL have yet to work out a clean installation routine!) so be sure to follow ZL's instructions carefully in order to fully rid yourself of the beast before either attempting to re-install ZA or to install some other PF (could this maybe have been the cause of the problem when you last tried TPF?)?

If deleting the files doesn't do the trick, this hopefully should!

    Good luck!

    You're welcome :)

    Brett,

Nope that wasn't the problem with Tiny. Tiny was the "very first" Firewall I ever downloaded & tried, because I'd read such high praises about it. I didn't have any others on my computer at the time. Maybe it was just a fluke of what all other programs I was running, because I have several graphics programs, but the only ones Tiny seemed to pick on to mess up was my IE & OE. However it messed them up more than enough. I wasn't too happy to say the least. :)

Thanks again, brett, but ZA wasn't the problem with Tiny. :)

I'm still reading & trying to decide what to do. Hope to have some results in a few days. Since ZA seems to take it's spells every few days.

Bye for now & thanks again. I will post back.

    Deloris.

To those who replied to my post:

I decided to uninstall ZA & re-install it. So far it's been behaving itself. :)

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.
