    Hi,

    I was trying to upgrade my wife's Norton 2002 antivirus subscription to 2005. I d/l the file and then clicked on it to install it. This didn't work, and eventually Symantec's phone technician talked me through a series of deletions--I emptied the TEMP folder, and deleted several other folders labeled "Symantec" or "Norton." (He thought the problem was that we needed to uninstall the 2002 Norton first.) Finally, after all of that still didn't allow me to install the 2005 Norton, he emailed me a link to some type of installer utility, and this also didn't help.

    The problem now is that my wife's Internet connection is really ******* up; I assume the above tinkering is what caused it. My wife has a Fujitsu laptop. In any event, here are the symptoms:

    * I can't view Java script.

    * Certain "buttons" don't work anymore. For example, in Yahoo!, I can no longer use "Delete" or
    "Compose." I can click on the buttons and depress them, but then nothing happens. However, the
    hyperlinks still work. E.g. I can still check my new mail (but not answer it!) by clicking on
    "Inbox (3)" and then clicking on the individual emails. Similar buttons on other websites also do not work.

    * When I first sign in to Yahoo!, I get a new screen that says something like, "Your browser does
    not support automatic redirecting to new URLs...Click here... "

    I would really appreciate it if someone could either tell me a) exactly how to fix it, or b) how to save the links in the Favorites folder (since others have advised me to uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer).

    Thanks!
    Bob

    Hello Bobbi,

    IE Favorites has a folder in Windows, has a star icon instead of a the folder icon, treat like any other folder - copy out.

    Bob,

    Suggest you download either mozilla or firefox (both free) from www.mozilla.org so you'll have an alternative to IE until your problem is fixed. Actually I prefer them.

    Try going to control panel and clicking 'add/remove windows components in the left margin, then in the window that opens click Internet Explorer and follow the directions.

    Are there problems with any other aspects of XP? If so, be sure to back up all important data as a precaution.
