    Hi,
I have Win2000 Server...and you'd think having this that I would have mastered the policies etc. Well, not so. I have had problems with Adaptec CD writing software. I won't go into the long history but I have been able to get version 4 of the software to work. The question is when I try to install version 5 I get the message "system administrator has set policies to prevent the installation."

I didn't set any policy on installations. I did have problems with the software at one time and had to uninstall and remove pieces from the registry. I may have damaged something. Anyway...any ideas would be appreciated!

I can't give you much specific advice but I'll take a moment to tell you all I know. (May not take that long even)

    1) Since user restrictions are being applied to you, that implies that you have set up the system for multiple users and aren't checked in as the Administartor (full priveleges). Check to see what configuration is in place and what security restrictions are being invoked.

    2) Roxio Easy CD Creator has had its share of problems and there is an updated driver available for it. That's the good news, the bad news is, the support site spends a lot of time off line for maintenance. Good luck there. Roxio is also well know for being slow with their support. Since they took over Adaptech, I wouldn't look for too much help out of them. You may just need to replace that software since it's hanging out to dry.

That about wraps it up here. :)

Perhaps later someone will ring in that has deeper insight into your problem. In the mean time this will kick you back to the top of the heap.

    Good luck.

thank you for your reply...I am logged in as as administrator and have not created any specific security settings.

I bought Nero to use in lieu of Adaptec but I had problems with that and went back to Adaptec version 4.

Oh well, thanks again, I'll try the driver you told me about.
