    Hello,
    I have 2 different drivers for an USB data cable I recently bought.
    When installing one or the other (clean install - old inf and PNF files removed), XP always terminates its job telling me that "Device install finished with error Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified. ".
    Then I can use my USB data cable, but each time I shutdown then reboot my computer and want to use it again, I have to re-install the driver again ...
    I haven't tried installing another kind of drivers as I have nothing else to install at this time, but I suspect it would give me the same error (?).

    Here is the inf file :

    1=%Pro.Disk%,,,

    Here what says the setupapi log file (sorry it's in french) :

    There's nothing in the event log.

    Apparently, I miss a file ... but which one ?? It's written nowhere ...

    I tought I could make an XP repair job but as I'm not really aware of that I would prefer to repair that problem myself ... if possible :)

    Has anybody an idea of what happens with that driver install ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Why do you have/need 2 different drivers for this cable? In many cases you don't need any USB driver with XP. Have you tried the cable after removing the drivers?

    Hi sparrow,
    to be more precise, I have 2 different cables ... and 1 driver for each.
    But I'm not installing both at the same time.
    Yes I need a driver for my USB data cable because it's an USB to Serial bridge.
    I still need help :)

    Have no experience with USB/serial cables. If you don't get an answer soon, you might try posting in the hardware forum.
