I decided that I should upgrade my motherboard so I went ahead and bought a Gigabyte MB and when I installed it and turned it on it wouldnt turn on. But It would turn on when I disconnect the video card from the AGP slot. The video card is a GeForce FX 5600 256mb. Most of my buddy's say that it could be that the chipset of the videocard isnt compatible with the AGP slot on the MB. But the card runs fine on the old motherboard.

I also returned the MB and got a new one to see if maybe the AGP slot was fried on the other one..but the problem still continues.

What do you guys think the problem could be ?

    All help would be appreciated!

Remy- Welcome to the Board :)

Have you loaded the chipset drivers from the CD which should have come with the board?

    Is AGP enabled in BIOS?

Helpful if you would post the model no. of the mobo.

    Hi Remy-

Sounds like what happened when I got my Gigabyte board. I bought a GeForce MX400 for it. They were incompatible, the motherboard could not run with that video card (I returned the system and the techs tried everything to get them going...including returning the video card to the manufacturer twice).
I ended up getting an ATI video card replacement for the nVidia card. The ATI worked without any dramas. Actually, thinking about it, I should have asked for a different brand of motherboard (although it has otherwise worked quite well).

I hope you can get them going, but it does seem the same as my incompatibility problem.

It may be resolved by doing a BIOS upgrade. If you have not done a BIOS upgrade, get someone that has done one before to help you or follow the instructions very carefully. A BIOS upgrade did not work for me though.

    Matt

Yeah mattman, I was talking to another friend of mine the other day and I told him the issue and he said the same thing, that its just not compatible. So now I have to save up to buy a good video card because technology's always growing so I cant just buy a cheap one now that will be worthless within the next 2 months. He also told me that Nvidia and Gigabyte never worked together..meaning they where always having problems and that ATI works fine with those mb. Well now I have to go out and buy a new video card...anyone got any ideas?

    Remy-

Pricewatch is a good starting point for a price search, and Newegg has about the most competetive prices. I think any ATI 8X AGP card should work.
