I have a dual boot print server that runs win 98 and win 2000. when the server is set to win98 it will accept print jobs from both 98 and 2000 machines. When the server is set 2000 it will only handle print jobs from the 2000 machines. The 98 machines ask for a password to get access to the print server, but there isn't a password set and the everybody group and user is allowed.

any ideas as to what I should look for to allow the 98 machines to print to the 2000 one?

    thanks

it is in a peer -peer config only to share the printer and internet access. All machines are in network including the print server dual boot Win98 and win2000. reason for this setup is because it is in a school setting with some students doing a win 98 program and some doing a win 2000 program. dual booting allows us to double our course load without increasing our hardware. the print server also acts as a work staition too.

well, I mananged to find the reason for this. It appears that i need to go back and check the proticals on the win2000 machines. Also need to check the naming convention to see that the other machines are listed in the Security Accounts Manager (SAM) database on the 2000 machine with the shared resource.

Thanks for posting back that you found the answer and what it was.

Sorry no one jumped in to help but I think lots of the regulars don't look in on weekends - at least to the 2K section.

    security

I assume that you shared the printers. (obviously)

Have you configured the share and security permissions properly.

Make sure that if you want everyone to be able to print to all your printers that you have the permissions set very liberal.

are you running security? Do users have an acount on this machine?

Did the Qdoc fix the issue?
