    3

Clear all temp files, delete all System Restore points and run a System File Check with your XP cd. Do one of the online virus scans, too. Post back and let us know if you are still receiving the errors.

You may want to take a look at this thread ...
    ZoneAlarm Pro and TrojanHunter Conflict???
See mankind99uk 2nd post, having same error message from Event viewer.
Be sure to see Page 2 of post per ZA requesting info concerning the problem.

Also, if your running ZA, version 3 or upgraded to a new release, the following thread involves VisualZone and ZoneAlarm with similar problems. They feel it is a ZA issue.

How is this done? I have my disk and I can put it into one of the drives. One is a (E) DVD/CD reader the other is a (F) DVD/CD R/RW. Then what would be the command?

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow - note the space and have your XP CD handy. If you put it in the optical drive which was not the installation drive you will get an error message - either browse to the other optical drive or swap the CD to the other drive.

SFC will run and exit without any dialogue - to see which files, if any were replaced look in Event Viewer.

BTW - I agree with DennisL - almost certainly a Zone Alarm problem. Upgrade to latest version or reinstall.

Dennis L spotted it! ZA is part of Computer Associates - I'd forgotten that :(

That's where your problem lies I guess.

The previous posts are right. CA's firewall is just a rebranded version of Zone Alarm. I get the same error with my ZA as you. In searching for an answer for the problem it seems to be the general concensus that it's caused when you upgrade the firewall and choose to keep your previous settings. The answer (or so they say) is to uninstall and reinstall it without saving your previous settings. I can't vouch for it first hand though as I've never gotten around to trying it though in the past when I upgraded I've always saved the previous settings so it makes me wonder. Maybe I'll give it a try one of these days but so far things work just fine the way they are so I figure why bother. ;)

Snicker all you want and while you can Johanna. Sooner or later Norton will bite ya and when it does it'll probably be a worse problem than this.

Thanks to all here. I have done all the suggestions and now it appears that there are no errors at all. I have a warning only. Maybe you can recommend something for that.
    The Warning:
I do not know how to configure the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account. Any suggestions?
I also notice that the desktop URL shortcuts don't work any more, and I can't make a link in email work any more. I guess that is for a different forum. I will post it in the Internet explorer forum, so don't answer here.
