    Ramona,

I have noticed a peculiar problem with images in signatures.

    1) For new composed email, images in signature work fine.
    2) For replies, if signature is configured to be added at the end of the mail (below the Quote, as recommended), images in signature work fine.
    3) For replies, if signature is configured to be added above the Quote and below my reply (as Outlook does by default), images in signature are not attached with the mail.

Is their any fix for it?

    Thanks,

    -ambarish

Welcome to the Forum, ambarish c

    ambarish c,

Update to Thunderbird 1.0, as placing a signature with an image above the quote , and below the reply does work. I just tried it, and the image was viewable. If you are using a Mail Client ((edited) other than Thunderbird 0.9, please let us know.

The thread I split this post from was originally about Thunderbird 0.9 and using HTML in a signature, etc.

    ambarish ...

Welcome to the BBS and the Netscape/Mozilla forum!

    Ramona ...

    Three things:
    1. You've got to get more sleep, kid. Tbird isn't a browser! :D

    2. In Tools > Account Settings > Composition & Addressing, with Automatically quote the original message when replying checked, I'm unable to place a signature above the quote, as the window for and place my signature is always grayed out.

In other words, even with start my reply above the quote selected, the signature is always placed below the quote.

Thinking that the problem might be because I was using an older build of Tbird 1.0 (I was using the 12-16-04 build), I just installed today's build (01-11-05, although it's dated 12-17-04 in Help > About). Nothing changed ... it's still as I've just described.

    3. The link in the email I received, notifying me of ambarish's post, took me to the old thread, not this one. I had to come to the forum and look for his post to read it.

Jim, in a perfect world I would never make an error. However, it isn't a perfect world, and I'm sure not perfect, so maybe you could cut me just a little slack? ;)

Yes, that is correct. Instead, use these settings. Once you have changed the settings, this is how the signature will look..
My Release date is even older than yours: version 1.0 (20041206)
Could be the settings in the nightly's just don't work. But they do work in the official Release.

You most likely received the email notification before I split the thread.

I wasn't trying to bust your chops, Ramona (well, maybe just a little :p). I just wanted to clarify your remark for any noobies who might be puzzled by it.

Apparently, the wording in item 2. of my post wasn't as clear as I thought :)o) ... those are my settings, except that the lower window is always grayed out.

I just uninstalled the build I was using and installed the official 1.0 release (12-06-04). Nothing has changed ... the settings do not work for me. My screenshot is of the official release settings.

I think you're right. You couldn't have split the thread until after you read ambarish's message, and notification would have been sent to both of us when he posted it.

    Jim,

Sounds to me like something amiss in your Profile. If two browsers have the same problem, I would suggest creating a pristine Profile. Don't copy anything from the existing profiles. Set up one Mail Account, without transferring anything, and see if you are able to enable the discussed settings. You've had problems before with settings, and I believe that the UA string spoofer was the cause.

    Let us know the outcome.

    Ramona ...

I've already tried that, with no success ... the window (actually a string gadget) in question remained grayed out.

The UA string spoofer problem was with Firefox, where I was unable to open a page in IE with either PrefBar or User Agent Switcher. That was very nicely resolved by installing Launchy.

I have no extensions installed in Tbird (although Launchy could be).

    JSS,

I do not have the extensions that you mentioned.....
The only extensions I have are:
    aboutconfig 0.4
    and
    chromedit
The only way I can replicate the "greyed" out option that you have is if I do not have "Attach Signature" selected in the "Account Settings ".

Selecting "Attach Signature" adds the following to the prefs.js file.
    user_pref( "mail.identity.id1.attach_signature ", true);

It is a per account setting for each account.

Please conferm that you have "Attach Signature" selected and you still get the "greyed out" problem.

    regards:captjlddavis

    Ramona, Cap'n ...

Remember the old saw about not being able to see the forest because you're standing too close to the trees? I have to plead guilty.

This post is going to be complicated, and I apologize for all the colors and italics, but using them was the only way I could keep pages, windows, settings, and buttons straight.

I did not have "Attach this signature:" checked, but it wasn't until you asked the question that I remembered why ... I'll come to that later.

Checking "Attach this signature:" does, indeed, clear the Composition & Addressing page's "and place my signature" window, but only if "start my reply above the quote" is selected in the window above it. If "start my reply below the quote" or "select the quote" is selected, the lower window will be grayed out.

Tbird handles signatures in two different ways. One is by checking "Attach this signature:" on the Account Settings page, then clicking the Choose... button and navigating to wherever your signature file(s) is/are stored and selecting one. Unfortunately, if I use this method, I'm locked into the signature selected in the window until I open Account Settings and choose a different one.

However, I use several different signatures: my full name, my first name, my initials, or "Dad ", depending upon to whom I'm writing. and Tbird's second method of handling signatures, the one I use, offers a lot more flexibility, with one drawback.

Multiple signatures can be managed in the "Identities" window opened by clicking the "Manage Identities..." button on the Account Settings page. Those signatures can then be selected on the "From" window's drop-down menu in either a reply or a new message. The drawback is that they always appear below the quote in a reply, which is not where I want them, and they've always got the "--" delineator, or whatever it's called, immediately above them.

FYI, AboutConfig is now at version 0.5. I've never used it with Tbird, but I'll take a look ... maybe I can get rid of the delineator with it.

Glad you got it - (somewhat)
I don't use/like TB or FF so I will leave the fine tuning to others. Most things are there, it is just a matter of finding them.

aboutconfig 5 is the latest - and well worth the effort.
It is installed on a profile specific basis.

I have this very same error. Actually you can see the signature in the compose window (like Ramona showed us with her screenshot) but the images in the signature are not attached when you actual send the email.

Try sending an email to yourself with an HTML Signature with images, using the settings to include the Signature "below my reply (above the quote) ".

This looks like a bug. I'm using Thunderbird 1.0.

    Welcome to the Forum, scorpius!

You are so right, scorpius! Doesn't show the graphic file at all. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm.

Well, I'll have to play with that for a while and see if I can come up with a workaround... Thanks very much for the heads up.
