    Hi,

I'm wondering if it was possible to use Win2K3 Server (configured as a gateway) to control which user accounts have access to the Internet? Thanks in advance.

Hi Pierre E and welcome to the forum.

Are you running any sort of proxy server on the 2K3 box?

no i'm not. Is that necessary? If it is, it would mean having to buy the proxy server software:(

What kind of routing devices do you have? I would recommend getting a decent one with access control lists.

I have a cisco soho 97 router/adsl modem, but i want to control access by userid (like a domain account) and not by ip or mac address.

Hmm, not sure if it's free with 2003 (SBS) etc or has the functionality but it is Microsoft's. We don't use this but check out ISA server.

I checked and Windows2003 SBS does not come with ISA. So I gather that a proxy server is the only way to control Internet access? Oh well. Thanks a lot for your help, Rothgar.

No problem Pierre, Trend have some solutions I believe, as do a lot of people but for integration of user accounts it would most likely have to be a windows product. Unless you wanted to make a seperate access control list.

I don't know of any that would integrate with AD as I have never used a setup like that. I have only setup access via mac addresses/ip etc.

    Regards,
    Jason
