Am I correct in thinking that, while there are many options for customizing Firefox, the methods by which you do some are sometimes just a little obscure?

One of the things that I managed to do in Mozilla was to "turn off" the little pop-up boxes that appear on this website when you mouse-over a thread title. Damned if I know what you call those things, but they reveal the first line of the post, and the thing that's annoying me is that they linger, whether or not I've clicked on the thread, blocking me from reading the actual post. The also appear on the index list, showing them not only if I mouse over the specific link, but if I pause within the block of the thread.

I actually had to go back to IE to make sure this was a Firefox and not a Windows issue, but does anybody know if there's a way to turn this "feature" off?? Tools/Options just doesn't offer very many choices, and nothing there seems appropriate. Of course, it might help if I had a clue what they were called...

I also would like to know how to turn off this feature. It is not just FF as I get the entire message to read in IE. At least FF is only the first sentence.

    Gentlemen,

They're called Tooltips, but whether or not they can be disabled with, or without an extension, is yet a mystery to me. I'm in the middle of a search for information, and when I find something I'll post it for you...

There is a setting in Mozilla: Appearance | Show Tooltips

Hi everyone, I just joined here. I am also a member at SD701, and I recognize some members here already!

Anyways, back to the topic at hand...
I think there's an about:config setting for this...
    Try:
    Code:
    browser.chrome.toolbar_tips
    Set the value to false.

    Welcome to the Forum, beanboy89!

    beanboy,

Nice to see you here on the WindowsBBS Netscape & Mozilla Forum.

Thanks for the about:config setting, and could you give us the link where you found the setting, or were you smart enough to search in about:config? Something I hadn't done yet...

    Hi Ramona.
I don't remember exactly from where I found it, but I think it was at MozillaZine, a while ago.

    Beanboy89,

This is a no-brainer, but for those who might wonder: It works in Mozilla 1.7.5 as well.

    Thanks for the tip,
    Bob
