I have replaced the hard disk of my pc with a new one after a hd crash.
I took the occasion of installing XP Pro instead of WinMe that was installed before.
I have performed the installation of XP regularly using mouse and keyboard, but when XP installation is finished, both keyboard and mouse do not work any more.

I tried repeating the installation and the same behaviour occurs.

NB If I try to start the BIOS utility at the startup, the keyboard works without problems. So it seems that the problem is really with Win XP.

    any idea?

    thanks in advance

    Carlo---Welcome to the BBS

Is this a wired or wireless or USB KB and mouse?

    Is this XP with sp2?

carlo - Welcome to the Board :)

This is a long shot, but have you installed the motherboard drivers? Generally speaking a driver CD accompanies the motherboard.

Keyboard and mouse are PS2, not USB.

Win XP is without SP2 - will install it when I manage to use kybrd and mouse

No, I just inserted the Win XP installation CD in the drive and went through the installation process using keyboard and mouse.
At what stage should I install the motherboard drivers? After installing XP?
I shall look if I have these drivers anyway.

    Sorry - wasn't thinking straight - you can't :(

Or maybe you can - hit F8 as the PC boots and select Safe Mode - I guess the keyboard is working at the base level before Windows loads. Maybe it will work in Safe Mode.

    This is a strange problem.
