    Hello everyone...
    I have a problem...
Yesterday, I changed my soundcard from creative soundblaster live to creative soundblaster audigy2 (with external module.) I have fruityloops
v.4.52 installed also. Up until I changed my soundcard, FL used to work fine,
But my latency was off, and my sound quality was kind of choppy.
So, I figured changing the soundcard would help. I had gotten it from my brother, but no installation disk. So, I got on creative's site, and found
the best drivers I could find for my soundcard.
My mediaplayers play fine, but whenever I try to use FL, it loads up and
after a few seconds, it locks up my computer completely, thus having to
hold in the power button and improperly shut down my pc.
when I restarted my pc, I got a message on my desktop as my running apps
were loading up which said "Power Meter:Explorer.EXE-Unable to locate component. This application failed to start because Direct IO.dll was not
found..." BTW, this never happened to me before.
FL is one of the main reasons I use my pc, please help!

    Hi cpu04,

Suggest you completely uninstall the FruitLoops software, then maybe even rerun the Creative drivers installation again, then reinstall the F/L software.

If that does not work, check through the device listings for any old sound drivers that may be around. To be safe, you may need to uninstall any and all of the sound drivers and the F/L software and start again from scratch, installing the Creative drivers then the F/L software.

    Hey Mattman,
I tried that, now I don't have any drivers for my onboard soundcard either.
I also have an m-audio breakout box, with a mixer console interface, and
that's gone too. I'm at the end of my rope now...

cpu04, the system would have lots of new and old driver files, plus those for the breakout box. All the previous drivers would be directed to outputing sound through the onboard audio.

Check the motherboard manual for a way to disable the onboard audio. If that is not possible and Windows reinstalls the onboard audio, in Device Manager set the onboard audio to "disabled ". Rerun the Creative drivers program. If Windows does not detect and install the Creative hardware go to Add New Hardware in Control Panel and run the "wizard ". You may need to select the model in the "list" (where it says "do not detect the hardware...select from a list "). Get the drivers installed for the Audigy and make certain they work with basic programs like Media Player. Make certain that the drivers are listed are the correct ones for that Audigy model (Windows will install what it thinks are the right ones, maybe installing old standard drivers).

When you get the Audigy installed you will probably need to rerun the installation programs for things like the FruitLoops program and the breakout box (if the onboard audio has been disabled, the programs may search and find the Audigy themselves). It would probably be best to disconnect those periferals like the B/O box until you get the Audigy up and running and the onboard audio has been removed, then reconnect and rerun the installation programs so that the ouputs can be redirected to the Audigy.

If you can get the onboard audio disabled and still have trouble with the other software and drivers, try booting to the Windows CD and do a reinstall/repair. That could sort out the misdirections.

I hope you have some luck, but it seems that you are trying to work "backwards" and remove the old drivers and output links, then get everything redirected to the new soundcard. You may need to think about a fresh install of Windows (with the onboard audio disabled).

    Mattman-
    That's just it...
I don't have the correct drivers for my soundcard
My cd got destroyed beyond repair, and at the time, creative had those
drivers on their site. I downloaded the drivers and saved them to a little protable flash drive, and I wound up erasing them thinking I wouldn't need them anymore. I can't even find them on my hd, b'cause I did a format and reinstall. Creative doesn't have the drivers anymore, only updates which require you to have the original software in the first place.
