I'm having a problem with Netscape 7.2 when I go to a web page that requires Java to run animations. Upon clicking on the page link, as soon as it begins to load I'm back to the desktop, completely disconnected from the internet. this is the link to the page - http://radar.wrh.noaa.gov/radar/latest/DS.p19r0/si.kicx.shtml
On the left side when I click on Short Range Loop I get disconnected, it also does it to other pages that use Java. I had downloaded 7.2 two days ago (re-download) as I had problems getting a connection to the net and since then I have had this problem. Going to control panel I have three Java Icons, one says Java Plug-in, the second says Java Plug-in 1.3.1 and the last says Java Plug-in 1.4.0_03. If I double click on them the first one does nothing, the other two bring up a message that says "cannot find registry key" and I can't find any way to delete them. Going to 'add or delete programs' I find an entry for Java 2 Runtime Environment, SEv1.4.1_02. I know that Netscape 7.2 installs Java during the installation but I don't know if that Runtime Environment is what it installed or if it is what is causing the problem from a previous installation of something else. Under Preferences in Netscape both Java and Javascript are enabled. I would appreciate any advice available on this problem, thanks, Loren.

Loren, first of all the link you gave is not good in Netscape7.2, although it gives me the opportunity of navigate to the parent website, if I copy/paste it from Firefox. If I go to Netscape7.2, it tells me that I need the Java plugin. And, indeed I don't have any such plugin file. I do have files for the earlier 1.4.2_05 in Mozilla, but it does not work either.
However, I can get it to work in Firefox1.0, which does not have any plugins file in its folder.
I have Java 1.5.01, and when I check the Java settings, I found that mozilla and Netscape were unchecked. I did get the same problem before. I am getting a notice that: "Unable to chenge browser settings" and the usual garbage about permissions, or programs not properly installed.
Since I am using firefox as default browser, I never felt that there was a problem. I went through the change/Modify, and I still get the same error.

    Java

Westside, thanks for the reply but I've been using 7.2 for guite some time now and everything worked great, all of the Java dependent sites worked including the NOAA radar site. I began to have a problem with my 7.2 as it wouldn't load the internet so I re-downloaded 7.2 (I keep the old 4.8 Communicator on hand for just this reason) and thats when the problem started.

Added-- I've tried to delete that Java Runtime entry and I get an error message that the support file cannot be found. It's still there. I gave up and downloaded Firefox, installed it (actually using it right now) and went to the NOAA radar site and the same thing happened! I've got something seriously wrong going on here and need some help.

Added-- Fixed it!! Apparently that Java Runtime Environment prog was corrupt, I went to the Sun Java site and downloaded it again and everything is working fine now.
