i already have all ( i think) updates done. including service pack2. i was going to WinUpdate site just to check and see if theres any updates.

and i get this error message 0x8DDD0002

i am logged on to winXpHome with the only username on this computer. and have full administrative privilidges.

i have already done a search on this site and found this :http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=38702

i also, have already tried the solutions described in that thread. i made sure that "admins" and "system" have full access. i checked to make sure that "bits" and "autoupdates" services are started, and they were/are.

while this is no emergency,..id appreciate any help towards a solution. thank you

When you type control userpasswords2 in the run command (Start > Run), what does it show?

when i type "control userpasswords2 " in the run command, i get the "user accounts" screen.

it shows the 2 users "administrator" and "Jay "(thatsme).

there is a box thats checked that says "users must enter a username and password to use this computer. "

there is also a button to "reset password for user ".

i changed the password for the "administrator" user and tried to log on with UN/PW. told me "cannot log on due to access restriction ".

the option to "reset password for user" is not available when i highlight my username "Jay ". i checked the properties for my username "Jay" and it is set to "other-administrator ".

just wanted to post the problem has been resolved. i contacted MS and they E-mailed me a suggestion. and here it is :

    ****Suggestion 1
    ==========
This issue occurs if installation of the controls requires the local "Administrators" group to be granted the permissions to "Back up Files and
Directories" and "Manage auditing and security log ". However, domain policies often modify these default settings, which will cause this issue in update installation. We will add the Administrators groups to this specific policy.

    1. Click Start, click Run, type "secpol.msc" (without the quotation marks), and then press Enter.
    2. Double-click Local Policies on the left pane.
    3. Double-click User Rights Assignment.
    4. Double-click "Back up Files and directories" on the right pane.
    5. Click "Add User or Group ", input "Administrators" (without quotation marks) and click "Check Names ", and then click OK.
    6. Double click "Manage auditing and security log ", use the same method, please make sure "Administrators" is also added.
    7. Close all windows.****

i did like it says,..and all is good.
