I am running Windows 2000 Pro. Can I install XP over that and not have to re-install all my programs?
Does XP format the drive or avything like that when installing?
    THANKS,
    John

You can upgrade to XP-pro over 2K and if all goes well (usually does) you won't lose anything at all. Best to do it after cleaning the 2K system though. start=>run=>cleanmgr.exe and let it remove stuff. Run either Ad-aware or Spybot (or both) to remove any critters. Quicklinks in my signature has links to download both.

You cannot 'upgrade' to XP-home since 2K rightly sees that as a downgrade and it won't run.
